Opening of the 44th ASEAN Railway Directors General Meeting in Indonesia

On the morning of September 3, the 44th ASEAN Railway Directors General Meeting opened in Bandung City, Indonesia. This conference has the theme “Towards Sustainability through Digital Innovation”. This is an annual activity, organized by ASEAN railways in turn. The Vietnamese delegation was led by General Director Hoang Gia Khanh.

The conference is a place for General Directors, managers and operators of ASEAN railways including Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam to discuss and exchange experiences in developing and effectively exploiting the railway system in the region, ways to solve key problems that railways in the region are facing, update the progress of implementing regional railway projects and further strengthen the relationship of cooperation, friendship and mutual assistance among ASEAN railways.

This is also an opportunity for organizations such as the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the International Railway Association (UIC), non-ASEAN railways, and the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of railway technology and equipment to learn and update information on railway development in the region and introduce the latest products and technologies in the railway sector.

In addition to the above main objectives, the 44th Conference also mentioned the digital transformation of ASEAN railways in the management, exploitation, maintenance of railway infrastructure as well as transportation business.

At this Conference, when attending the General Director's meeting on the afternoon of September 3, 2024, General Director Hoang Gia Khanh discussed many important contents such as: VNR restructures to effectively manage, exploit and operate the national railway infrastructure system invested by the State. VNR also actively implements digital transformation in corporate governance and transport operations.

In addition to the goal of providing increasingly better services to customers and shippers, the railway also aims to reduce emissions into the environment, contributing to the "Sustainable" development of each country. To realize that, we (VNR) have actively implemented "Digitalization" in business administration, traffic management, passenger and cargo transportation, vehicle operation and repair... to improve operational safety, reduce transportation costs, and meet the increasing demands of passengers and shippers.

The VNR General Director added, “VNR is actively preparing resources to receive, manage and operate the North-South High-Speed ​​Railway after its completion, following the direction of the Vietnamese Government .”

Previously, at the welcoming party for delegates on the evening of September 2, the Organizing Committee solemnly played the Vietnamese national anthem to celebrate Vietnam's National Day on September 2.
