Efforts to complete the targets of the Industry and Trade sector

In the first 9 months of 2025, the indicators of the Industry and Trade sector of Can Tho City maintained growth momentum, although the results were not as high as expected. To complete the 2025 target, especially when operating the new operating apparatus after the merger, the City's Industry and Trade sector continued to make efforts to focus on implementing the assigned tasks resolutely and effectively with many synchronous and flexible solutions.

Overcoming difficulties

In the first 9 months of 2025, Can Tho City has achieved positive socio -economic results with the total regional product (GRDP) estimated to increase by 7.39% over the same period in 2024; the economic scale reached 224,600 billion VND.

Mr. Hua Truong Son, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City, said that production and business activities of establishments in the area are stable; the quantity of goods at traditional markets and supermarket systems, shopping malls, and convenience store chains is abundant, ensuring the supply of people's consumption needs. Although the prices of some goods have increased and decreased, the level of fluctuation is not large and market prices are well controlled, there is no phenomenon of imbalance in demand as well as speculation, hoarding, unreasonable price increases, complying with the provisions of the law on price posting and selling at the listed price.

In 9 months, the industrial production index is estimated to increase by 8.65% over the same period last year (the annual plan is to increase by 10-15%); total retail sales of goods and service revenue is estimated at more than 259,620 billion VND, up 17.93% over the same period; export turnover of goods and foreign currency revenue is estimated at more than 4.11 billion USD, up 12.1% over the same period last year. The Department has received and issued 14,459 sets of Certificate of Origin (C/O) for export goods (of which 5,660 sets were issued to Can Tho City enterprises), an increase of 1,919 sets over the same period last year...

In recent times, the city's Industry and Trade sector has actively coordinated with departments, branches and localities to remove obstacles and speed up the progress of industrial projects; increased the attraction of potential investors by directly guiding 2 investors, surveying potential industrial cluster locations, proactively supporting businesses in recruiting workers. Coordinated the organization of conferences for potential customers and discussed investment projects for industrial zones and clusters in the city...

To strengthen the connection between supply and demand and trade between businesses and consumers, the Department has promoted trade promotion activities. These events focus on displaying and introducing typical products, OCOP products, and typical rural industrial products. Organizing conferences, seminars, visiting and working at businesses to grasp the production and business situation, ensuring a favorable production and business environment, contributing to promoting industrial growth in the area...

Synchronize solutions

According to the city's Department of Industry and Trade, although domestic industrial production and export activities have improved, some enterprises are still facing difficulties, many enterprises have reduced production scale and cut labor. The city's key export products are still facing difficulties in terms of output, market, and tariff barriers. Trade promotion activities, supply-demand connection, and effective goods trading have not met expectations. Due to the influence of slow promulgation of mechanisms and policies, some works and projects such as construction of technical infrastructure for power industrial clusters (thermal power projects, wind power projects, biomass power projects, waste power projects, power lines and transformer stations, etc.) are still behind schedule compared to the plan; control of trade fraud and smuggling is still limited...

Mr. Nguyen Dang Chinh, Director of Petrolimex Can Tho One Member Co., Ltd. (Petrolimex Can Tho), said that in 9 months, the company's output reached 109.2% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 74.9% of the plan for 2025; paying the state budget 473.3 billion VND. 100% of the store system has applied electronic invoices and cashless payments. However, the company still faces many difficulties such as investment procedures for building new gas stations with many barriers (land use planning, connection procedures); The cost of investment in technology, infrastructure systems for retail and logistics is increasing while the profit from petroleum business is at a very low level... Therefore, we hope that the City People's Committee as well as departments and branches will pay attention to creating conditions and supporting the acceleration of procedures for upgrading and repairing petroleum stores, creating conditions for companies to develop more petroleum stores (increasing the growth rate by 10%) in the area in a fundamental and sustainable way. At the same time, the city also needs to consider simplifying some procedures related to licensing the construction of petroleum stores, especially in suburban areas and industrial parks...

Mr. Nguyen Duy Thanh, Head of Fresh Food Department, GO! Can Tho Supermarket, said that in the first 9 months of 2025, GO! Can Tho Supermarket welcomed more than 3 million customers to visit and shop; on average, the supermarket welcomed 3,500-4,000 customers per day. To ensure stable growth in the face of increasingly tight spending by consumers, in addition to policies to maintain price stability and increase discount and promotion programs, the supermarket also regularly organizes exciting activities on weekends; in particular, the online business and home delivery service are focused on by the supermarket. To attract tourists to visit and shop, the supermarket has implemented policies for drivers when bringing groups of guests. According to statistics, in the first 9 months, the supermarket welcomed about 1,700 vehicles which are tourist groups. Thanks to the above flexible policies, the supermarket's sales from the beginning of the year until now have been guaranteed to meet the assigned plan. Currently, the supermarket has a plan to reserve goods; at the same time, it is working with suppliers to negotiate goods sources as well as price policies, especially for essential products, so it is committed to ensuring goods sources as well as stabilizing prices to serve consumers.

Mr. Ha Vu Son, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City, said that in order to complete the industry's planning targets, the Department continues to deploy solutions, coordinate with relevant units to implement the industry's 2025 targets; focus on solutions to remove difficulties for industrial enterprises, promote trade, connect consumption, promote and stimulate demand to increase trade value. Advise on the issuance of new legal documents in the field of industry and trade after the merger. Focus on reviewing and adjusting the progress of delayed projects, eliminating unfeasible projects and adding new projects to ensure suitability. Pay attention to implementing the industry's digital transformation according to plan. At the same time, coordinate with departments, branches, sectors and localities to ensure the supply of gasoline and goods, especially essential goods for year-end shopping... In addition to the solutions of the functional sector, businesses need to continue to make efforts to overcome difficulties, develop production and business to achieve the best results.
