According to the article “Urgently repair the damage on the sidewalk of Nhu Nguyet Street” by Da Nang Newspaper and Radio and Television on October 23, due to the impact of storm No. 12 (Fengshen), Nhu Nguyet Street near Thuan Phuoc Bridge (Hai Chau Ward) was affected by large waves from Da Nang Bay, damaging some sections of the sidewalk, many stone benches and railings. Notably, this is not the first time this situation has occurred.
Regarding the above information, the Department of Construction said that the damage to the embankment on Nhu Nguyet Street mainly occurs in winter with the influence of storms, heavy rain and high tides.
Specifically, the damage occurred after 2017 due to the impact of construction works causing waves to spread deep into the Han River estuary at Thuan Phuoc Bridge area, at the same time as the impact of sea factors during the Northeast monsoon period increased suddenly or combined with big waves and high tides.
The current design of the revetment cannot withstand wave and tidal conditions exceeding the design.

The former Department of Transport (now the Department of Construction) conducted a survey, collected opinions from experts and units; and advised the People's Committee of Da Nang City on solutions.
Accordingly, the Project to Overcome the Impact of Storms, High Tides, and Waves on Nhu Nguyet Street was approved by the City People's Committee and commenced on September 3, 2025; with a total investment of more than VND 12.4 billion.
The project was assigned by the Department of Construction to the Danang Infrastructure Maintenance Board to manage and was in progress when it was affected by storm No. 12 and had to be temporarily suspended.
The solution is to repair the damage to the existing revetment wall and sidewalk, renovate and peel off part of the concrete on the top wall, extend the steel, raise the top of the wall; build a wave-breaking wall to reduce waves from overflowing the top of the revetment, the top elevation of the revetment is 2.9m.
The seawall is a reinforced concrete structure with steps and railings. The repair of damaged sidewalks uses a concrete structure with a color that is cast in place to match the existing brick color to save costs, ensure safety and urban aesthetics. The Department of Construction prioritizes research and application of new technologies and new materials.
According to the Department of Construction, through general assessment, the constructed seawall sections have been effective in reducing the impact of wave run-up on infrastructure along Nhu Nguyet Street. The project is expected to be completed soon, reducing damage caused by adverse weather, ensuring urban aesthetics and infrastructure.
