Raising awareness of intellectual property protection and enforcement for OM rice varieties

(CT) - On the morning of October 24, the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute organized a training course on "Raising awareness of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights for OM rice varieties", under the Project on establishing intellectual property rights for OM rice varieties of the Rice Research Institute. Attending the training course were representatives of departments and centers of the agricultural sector, agricultural departments of some communes; some enterprises, farmers in cooperatives, and seed production groups located in Can Tho city.

Experts from the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology), Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) disseminated the following contents: basic issues on intellectual property management; skills in managing, exploiting and developing intellectual property; issues related to selecting and creating plant varieties and establishing intellectual property rights for plant varieties.

In recent years, the issue of intellectual property protection has received increasing attention, especially in the field of research and breeding of plant varieties. Protecting rights to new rice varieties not only helps protect the creative work of scientists , but also contributes to enhancing the brand value and competitiveness of Vietnamese rice in the domestic and international markets.

The Vietnamese rice brand is built in the form of certification trademark and trade mark protection with the aim of promoting, managing and protecting intellectual property in importing countries. The Vietnamese rice brand is built including: national certification trademark for Vietnamese rice; geographical indications, collective trademarks and certification trademarks for regional and local rice products; trademarks for rice products of enterprises.
