Support for members to overcome difficulties

In the period of 2021-2025, the Women's Union of Dong Hiep commune, Can Tho city focuses on building and improving the quality of many practical models suitable to the local reality. At the same time, the Union established and effectively managed loan groups from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP), revolving capital groups, etc. Through the models and activities of the Union, many members have the conditions to produce and do business, escape poverty, and improve their living standards.

The Dan Rap Lu Cooperative was established by the Women's Union of Dong Hiep commune, contributing to creating stable jobs for many members and women.

The Cooperative Group (THT) model of Lu-knitting was established by the Women's Union of Dong Hiep commune in 2024, currently creating stable jobs for 14 members, with an income of 3-4 million VND/person/month. Ms. Dao Thi Cam Tu, a member of the Cooperative Group, said: “My husband and I have two young children. Before, I was a housewife and took care of the children, the family's economy mainly relied on my husband's wages. In 2024, the Union staff encouraged me to participate in the vocational class and make Lu-knitting, I have a monthly income of about 3 million VND".

According to Ms. Le Kim Luyen, President of the Commune Women's Union, in the period of 2021-2025, the Union established and maintained 5 collective economic models, contributing to job creation and increasing income for members and women, such as: Water hyacinth weaving cooperative with 20 members, income of about 3-5 million VND/person/month; Cooperative growing crops combined with ornamental flowers with 30 members, on average, each crop combined with ornamental flower growing, growers earn a profit of 40-50 million VND/year.

Ms. Le Thi Ut Em, a member of the Tet Flower and Ornamental Planting Cooperative, shared: “My family has 2 hectares of land, previously growing rice, with low income. Since 2021, the Commune Women's Union has encouraged me to join the Cooperative and introduced me to borrow capital from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, so I have converted the rice growing model to growing vegetables. In particular, every Lunar New Year, my family invests in growing about 2,000 baskets of raspberry chrysanthemums, large chrysanthemums, marigolds... Thanks to that, the family has a total income of over 100 million VND/year."

The Women's Union of Dong Hiep commune established and maintained 24 groups borrowing capital from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, supporting over 1,200 households to borrow preferential loans to invest in production, small business... The family of Ms. Dao Thi Kim Hong, a member of the commune's women's union, used to face many difficulties. Ms. Kim Hong is a single mother, raising 2 young children. Previously, she was a worker, but due to her lonely circumstances, she quit her job to take care of her children. Ms. Hong was supported by the Women's Union of the commune to apply for a loan to invest in opening a snack and beverage shop. Because she cooks well and has a friendly personality, her shop is always crowded with customers. Ms. Hong confided: "Every day, after expenses, I earn more than 200,000 VND, saving up to pay for my children's education."

In addition to supporting members in economic development, the Commune Women's Union cares for poor women, orphans, and those in difficult circumstances, contributing to ensuring social security. In the period of 2021-2025, the Commune Women's Union coordinated with the branches to mobilize support for officials and members in difficult circumstances on holidays and Tet, with a total value of over 140 million VND; coordinated to mobilize regular support for 12 orphans, with a total amount of over 90 million VND; visited and gave 184 gifts to encourage children of members to join the army with a total amount of over 36 million VND. The Union mobilized support to build and repair 6 Charity Homes...

The situation of Mrs. Tran Thi Phi, a member of the commune's women's association, is very difficult. After separating from her husband, she raised her young child alone, her family had no land to produce, and had to work for a living. Recently, the Dong Hiep Commune Women's Association mobilized funds and supported the construction of a Charity Shelter to help Mrs. Phi's family stabilize their housing.

Ms. Le Kim Luyen, President of the Women's Union of Dong Hiep commune, informed: "Through many practical care and support activities, over the past 5 years, the Union has helped 63 poor and near-poor households with women to escape poverty and near-poverty." The Women's Union of the commune continues to build, maintain and improve the quality of the model to support members in effective economic development; support timely loans so that women have the conditions to invest in production and business. Thereby, contributing to helping members improve their living standards, build prosperous, progressive and happy families.
