The desire to grow of Ho Chi Minh City literature and art

Over the past 50 years, Ho Chi Minh City's literature and arts (VHNT) has affirmed its role as a pillar of sustainable development, contributing to promoting creative economy, cultural tourism and international integration.

That journey not only reflects the vivid reality of the country's largest city but also demonstrates the dedication of many generations of artists who have accompanied the city through each stage of change.

After the country's reunification, Ho Chi Minh City's Culture and Arts sector quickly affirmed its pioneering position in orientation, aesthetic education and building a new cultural and spiritual life. This is an important premise for the city's Culture and Arts sector to transform itself with strong imprints of the socialization model, public-private cooperation before entering the digital transformation stage and the era of cultural industry and creative economy today. Culture and Arts sector has been clearly demonstrating the role of "soft power" in positioning the brand, identity and position of the city, towards the goal of becoming a "creative city".

One of the most prominent marks is the socialization model with the success of thousands of art units, stages, film studios, television production units, and private event organizing companies, thereby encouraging investment, awakening creative potential, and turning culture into a dynamic economic sector. From that open mechanism, Ho Chi Minh City has gradually formed an art market - an important foundation of the cultural industry.

The public and audience are no longer passive beneficiaries but gradually become co-creators and investors in spiritual values. The breakthrough of programs such as Anh trai “say hi”, Anh trai vu ngan cong gai, Hozo International Music Festival or movies with revenue of hundreds of billions of dong… are proof of the effectiveness of the model of socialization and creative empowerment for society.

Looking back at the past 50 years and the journey ahead, it is impossible not to mention two other important aspects: creating a competitive environment and nurturing the youth of the city's arts and culture. Healthy competition in the fields of cinema, music, theater, performing arts, literature... creates strict screening, thereby contributing to improving the quality of works and stimulating lasting creative energy.

It can be said that the young generation of artists in the city today is continuing with the spirit of aspiration to strive to keep up with and approach the contemporary flow outside but without losing the identity and endogenous strength from within crystallized from thousands of years of civilization.

With the position of a "super city", Ho Chi Minh City possesses great room for the development of culture and arts: cultural infrastructure, creative spaces, a system of grassroots cultural institutions and an increasingly large consumer market.

At the same time, the Project on Developing the Cultural Industry of Ho Chi Minh City to 2030 issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is also establishing the orientation for developing cultural industries with a long-term vision - taking people as the center as affirmed by the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang at the Conference summarizing 50 years of Culture and Arts after the country's reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025): Culture is soft power, the glue that connects people, enriching the city's identity. That is also an important orientation in the journey of Ho Chi Minh City's Culture and Arts, continuing the pioneering spirit and creative aspirations, affirming its position as the leading cultural and creative center in the region, contributing significantly to the aspiration to build Ho Chi Minh City into a sustainable development.
