Expert's perspective
Recently, at the Workshop on “Orientation for socio -economic development and comments on documents of the Provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term”, Party Central Committee member, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai affirmed that An Giang aims to become a fairly developed province of the country by 2030, a strong marine economic center of the country, with a complete economic ecosystem, with both sea and plains and borders. The above goal can completely become a reality, opening up a new development space, unprecedented in history.
Looking back at the planning of Kien Giang province for the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 previously approved by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, the three major urban areas (Phu Quoc, Rach Gia, Ha Tien) are identified as the "Main Development Triangle" in the marine, service and trade economy of the whole region. And now, the quadrilateral area of Long Xuyen - Chau Doc - Rach Gia - Ha Tien has become a "comprehensive economic dynamic zone, a connected economy". There are high-tech agriculture, logistics, eco-tourism, border trade and deep processing industry.
Need to promote the formation of riverside urban areas
The idea of becoming a “comprehensive economic dynamic region” was likened by Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan to “a continuous economic ecosystem”, where there are three economic development axes: Delta - Border - West Sea. These are three economic axes that will interact and support each other to promote sustainable economic growth.
In order for An Giang to successfully realize its aspiration of becoming a national marine economic center, experts and scientists believe that the province's economic development foundation needs to be built on three linkages: the "three fish" strategy (fisheries - fishermen - fishing grounds), the three pillars of marine economy (tourism - coastal urban areas - general services) and the development triangle (Phu Quoc - Rach Gia - Ha Tien).
If Phu Quoc promotes the development of tourism - finance, Rach Gia develops trade - building the administrative center of the province, Ha Tien develops heritage tourism, regional logistics center. Mr. Nguyen Chu Hoi - Vice President of Vietnam Fisheries Association said that, implementing the three fish strategy, the province needs to reduce natural fishing, increase aquaculture, promote marine conservation, and at the same time develop high-tech, environmentally friendly seafood value chains.

Development solutions
Sharing the same view with experts on sustainable marine economic development, Mr. Le Chi Binh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Fisheries Association said that in order to reach out to the ocean, it is necessary to continue to reorganize the production of the fisheries industry in a modern, green direction, adapting to climate change. It is necessary to focus on developing high-tech marine farming, prioritizing valuable native aquatic species, improving the quality of processing, and at the same time reorganizing the offshore fishing force in a more systematic and professional manner.
An Giang is determined to build modern transport infrastructure, social infrastructure, and digital infrastructure. Promote the development of education and digital healthcare in the top group in the country, connecting the sea space with the core area of the Long Xuyen quadrangle through the supply chain of seafood, medicinal herbs, logistics, and tourism. This is an important premise for the province to develop after the merger.
Many projects are invested in Phu Quoc to serve tourism development.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan further emphasized: “The province needs to quickly implement the above 3 linkages because An Giang is not only a raw material area but must become a new idea warehouse of the Mekong Delta. Developing agriculture and aquaculture in the future cannot be separated into each sector, but must be viewed as a multi-layered ecosystem. In which, ecological - cultural - economic - technological - innovative values are closely integrated”.

The province aims to become a strong national marine economic center by 2030, possessing a complete economic ecosystem. To realize its goals and aspirations, the province needs to focus on strategic solutions such as developing a diverse and sustainable marine economy, building synchronous and modern infrastructure; promoting the improvement of human resource quality and the application of science and technology, continuing to perfect mechanisms and policies, and strengthening cooperation.
Specifically, in building mechanisms and policies, the province needs to continue to issue policies to attract investment, support businesses to develop marine economy, tourism, and comprehensive economy; promote the simplification of administrative procedures, create an open and transparent business environment, etc. With the above solutions, it is hoped that An Giang will successfully realize its aspiration, rise to become a fairly developed province of the country, a strong marine economic center of the country, possessing a complete economic ecosystem as desired.
