Aspirations of the Coal Region through music

In Quang Ninh, music is not just music, not just singing, but also a means to convey the thoughts, feelings and aspirations of the people of the Mining Region.

Quang Ninh is a land that inspires many famous musicians such as Hoang Van, Tran Chung, Pham Tuyen, Tan Huyen, Trong Bang, Xuan Giao, Chu Minh, Duc Minh... with a series of songs "On the Northeast Sea and Sky", "Night Stars", "I Am a Miner", "Ha Long Dawn", "The Road to the Mine" etc.

In the 60s of the last century, many musicians came to Quang Ninh and left behind many good works such as: "Coal Miner's Song" by musician Do Nhuan, "Miner's Song" by musician Hoang Hiep, "Drilling Machine Rhythm" by musician Trong Bang, "Red Heart on Vang Danh Mine Land" by musician Chu Minh, "Heroic Mine Land" by musician Xuan Giao, "Party Flag Flying on Bai Tho Mountain" by musician The Bao, "Drivers on the Floor" by musician Thanh Long, etc. These songs have ignited the passion for many generations of singers and musicians in the Mining Region to shine.

The music composition team of Quang Ninh today is considered a fairly stable force. Every year, these authors regularly release new works. With their contributions in artistic work, Quang Ninh musicians have been and are contributing to promoting cultural and artistic movements, serving the people's need to enjoy spiritual values, so that Quang Ninh is always a bright spot in the country's music activities.

According to musician Do Hong Quan, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations , the topics that musicians aim for are also the youth with the characteristics of the Coal Region, an industrial labor region with a tradition of heroic people. Therefore, the works they write are easy to reach the youth, and are accepted by the young. Therefore, musical activities in Quang Ninh are also vibrant, fresh and well-organized.

On April 25, 2023, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association organized the Quang Ninh Music Activity Day 2023 with the theme "Aspiration for the Coal Region". This is an activity to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the Liberation of the Mining Region, April 25 (1955-2023), and the 60th anniversary of the founding of Quang Ninh province, October 30 (1963-2023).

Mr. Dao Huy Toan, Chairman of the Quang Ninh Literature and Arts Association, said: 18 years ago, on April 25, 2005, the Association organized the Quang Ninh Music Year and proposed the idea of choosing April 25 every year as Quang Ninh Music Day to create a new look for the music of the Mining Region. Following this idea, every year the Association has activities to promote music composition and performance on the occasion of April 25. Up to now, Quang Ninh has had over 3,000 songs of all kinds created. That is a priceless spiritual asset of the Quang Ninh music-loving public.

The Vietnam Musicians Association in Quang Ninh currently has 22 members, and is one of the most active units with many famous musicians, such as: Do Hoa An, Xuan Quang, Le Nguyen Them, Vu Duc Tao, Le Dang Ve, Ngoc Xuan, Dang Xuyen, etc. However, Quang Ninh music must expand to many generations and must rely on younger musicians, such as: Vu Viet Hong, Tuan Dat, Nguyen Duc Thang, Pham The Anh, Nguyen Manh Trung, etc. Thanks to this force, the team of music composers in Quang Ninh is getting thicker day by day.

The Music Association (under the Provincial Literature and Arts Association) - a more powerful force, currently has nearly 100 members who are musicians, singers, and artists who have made significant contributions to the movement of composing, staging, and performing arts at all levels. Many musicians have had works published in anthologies such as: "Singing with the sky and water of Ha Long", "Marching in the Northeast", "Mong Cai city of dawn", "Tien Yen land of aspiration", "Binh Lieu - Aspiration to rise up", "Hai Ha land of people" etc. Many musicians have organized individual or group music nights on the theme of their homeland Quang Ninh such as: Do Hoa An, Le Nguyen Them, Le Dang Ve, Le Chi Phuc, Tran Cuong.

Speaking at the Quang Ninh Music Activity Day 2023 organized by the Quang Ninh Literature and Arts Association on April 25, 2023, Musician Do Hong Quan said: Quang Ninh is blessed with many things by nature, so it has organized many large-scale events, including music events and activities for musicians to find creative inspiration, experience vivid reality to have works and have a place to perform. In general, Quang Ninh has a lot of musical potential, has strong and widespread professional music activities. The province and the Vietnam Musicians Association have built a music talent training center in Dai Yen ward, Ha Long city.

On the occasion of the Quang Ninh Music Activity Day 2023, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association launched a literary and artistic composition contest, including music, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of Quang Ninh province with the theme "Aspiration to build a model Quang Ninh, rich, beautiful, civilized, modern". The content focuses on reflecting the achievements and development process of Quang Ninh province over the past 60 years, typical examples in the 60 years of formation and development of the province, the process of labor, creativity, patriotism, self-reliance, and the aspiration to rise of the people of Quang Ninh.
