Recently, the awards ceremony for the 5th "Green Message" competition took place at the Academy of Journalism and Communication. This marks an important milestone in the journey of raising environmental awareness among Vietnamese students.
With the approval of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, the Faculty of Sociology and Development, in collaboration with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), is organizing the "Green Message" competition for students.
A creative playground for "green ideas"
Climate change, environmental pollution, extreme weather events, and the risk of extinction for many plant and animal species are pressing issues worldwide. Vietnam, in particular, is one of the countries most severely and immediately affected by climate change, and a signatory to all international conventions on this issue. In the effort to address climate change, the press and creative designers play a crucial role in updating information, disseminating knowledge, and sharing and spreading solutions. The Academy of Journalism and Communication, which trains young politicians and journalists, is making concerted efforts to address climate change through practical actions that best suit its capabilities.
Therefore, "Green Message" is not just a competition, but also a forum for young people to showcase their talents, share unique initiatives, inspire the community, and raise awareness of pressing environmental issues. In particular, this event is also part of a series of events celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Sociology and Development - Academy of Journalism and Communication.
The competition covered a wide range of topics, including: sustainable economic development models, youth movements with environmental initiatives, the development of organic farms, clean agriculture, the development of renewable energy in localities, nature conservation and biodiversity, etc. Many individuals submitted numerous entries across various categories, demonstrating the enthusiasm, dedication, and abundant creative abilities of the students at the Academy of Journalism and Communication.
The judging panel, comprised of experts and qualified lecturers, evaluated the entries based on clear criteria for content and form, emphasizing creativity, humanistic values, and skills in producing research and media products.
The awards ceremony honored outstanding individuals and groups, and provided an opportunity for everyone to reflect on their meaningful journey. The ceremony was attended by leaders from the Academy of Journalism and Communication: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Truong Giang - Deputy Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, Dr. Nguyen Duc Toan - Deputy Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, Ms. Franziska Schmidtke - Director of the Climate Change and Energy Asia Project, FES Institute; and Assoc. Spreading the green message
The Green Message Contest is the result of a collaborative program on integrating climate change education into student curricula between the Friedrich Ebert Institute in Vietnam (FES) and the Faculty of Sociology and Development, Academy of Journalism and Communication (AJC). The collaborative program began in 2015 with training courses for lecturers. Through these courses, lecturers gained more foundational knowledge and methods for integrating the content into their lectures.
The competition created a platform for students, aiming to encourage and promote writing about the environment and climate change, while also improving the quality of entries on this topic. It also encouraged research on the environment and climate change, as well as initiatives, ideas, and solutions to protect life on Earth and safeguard the environment for future generations.
Let us hope that the fruitful and practical collaboration on the topic of Environment and Climate Change between FES and the Academy of Journalism and Communication, Faculty of Sociology and Development, will continue in the coming years. This will contribute to implementing the spirit of the 13th Party Congress Resolution on enhancing the capacity for forecasting and warning of natural disasters, monitoring climate change, and joining hands with the international community in addressing this global issue.

The competition also serves as a bridge for young people to have the opportunity to interact, learn, and collaborate with each other. Through this, a community of environmentally conscious individuals is formed, working together to build a greener future.
Besides the "Green Message" contest, the Faculty of Sociology and Development also organizes many other meaningful activities such as scientific seminars, exhibitions, and volunteer activities, aiming to create a space for interaction, learning, and creativity for students.
Over the past three decades, the Faculty of Sociology and Development has continuously innovated in training students, conducting scientific research, and undertaking international cooperation projects, achieving significant accomplishments in its development journey and contributing to nurturing a generation of young intellectuals capable of shaping the future.
