Tran Ngoc Thinh was born in 1985, from Nam Dinh province, currently a construction engineer for oil and gas projects, working at the Construction and Installation Enterprise of Vietsovpetro Joint Venture, Vung Tau City, and working as a photographer at the Photography Department of the Literature and Arts Association of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

In 2019, when the company he worked for held a photo contest about workers, he searched through the archives he had taken during his time holding the camera, selected photos to submit to the contest and was lucky to win first prize. That was a big stepping stone for him to have the motivation to learn more about domestic photo contests, with the help and guidance of his seniors. His works were gradually recognized through photo contests.

“Photography has brought me many things: The closest are the satisfactory photos for family and friends, the beautiful photos that I took myself to hang in my house, meeting more friends who share the same passion, urging me to have many experiences, to explore the beautiful landscapes and people all over the country. As an amateur photographer, I do not want to be limited to a certain genre or aspect, however, I like and will aim to tell stories through images in photography (photo series)”, said Tran Ngoc Thinh.

The topics he pursues are the development and transformation of the workplace and living place - the coastal city of Vung Tau, the beautiful scenery of nature and people from all over the country... Especially the vivid, realistic images of the oil and gas industry associated with the massive projects at sea, where he works.

Promoting his creative strengths, he has many impressive photo collections such as: "The process of launching and transporting the longest drilling rig base ever manufactured in Vietnam for export abroad", Third Prize of the 6th Golden Moment Contest; Encouragement Prize of the Southeast Region Art Photography Festival (ANT) in 2023; "The beauty of Long Dien salt farmers", First Prize of the Long Dien District Beautiful Photo Contest in 2023.

For single photos, there are: "Overcoming the Waves", First Prize of the Vietsovpetro Photo Contest in 2019, Exhibition of the 12th International ANT Competition in 2023; "Flowers from the stingray drying profession", Exhibition of the Southeast ANT Festival in 2023.

In addition, Tran Ngoc Thinh also won the Second and Third prizes of the Phu My Town Photo Contest in 2024; 2 Second prizes of the Vung Tau Photo Contest of Golden Forest and Silver Sea in 2024 and a number of awards in the oil and gas industry (Special Prize in 2021, First Prize in 2019, Encouragement Prize in 2023...), along with many works selected for exhibition at national and regional competitions.

Most recently, on his personal page, he could not hide his emotions and joy when his photo series “Colors of the City on the East Sea” won the Gold Medal at the 2024 Vietnam ANT Competition, in the realism category. The series depicts the majestic beauty of the place where he is working; previously, this series won the Encouragement Prize at the 2024 Southeast Regional ANT Festival.
