NDO - The project focuses on providing experience and practical lessons to support Vietnam in the energy transition process.

The Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV) and the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority (EREA) - Ministry of Industry and Trade , together with the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), have officially signed an agreement to implement the project "Promoting Energy Sector Transition in Vietnam" (TEV).

With a total value of EUR 4 million funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the project will focus on three main areas to support Vietnam in the energy transition process, including providing experience and practical lessons to help the Ministry of Industry and Trade research solutions to realize international commitments on sustainable energy; building a new legal and regulatory framework, creating a solid foundation for energy transition activities; and equipping experts and managers with advanced technology expertise, contributing to the modernization of Vietnam's energy sector.

Ms. Michaela Baur, Country Director of GIZ Vietnam, expressed her delight that the TEV project was built on a solid foundation of more than 15 years of successful cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and GIZ.

Accordingly, the two sides have implemented projects with great impact such as the Smart Grid project or the recently concluded Rooftop Solar Power project in the commercial and industrial sectors.

The GIZ Country Director stressed Germany's continued commitment to sharing expertise and experience to ensure support for Vietnam to achieve a sustainable, affordable and reliable energy future.

The TEV project plays a fundamental role in the technical cooperation between Vietnam and Germany. In addition, the project is also consistent with the objectives of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) between Vietnam and the G7+ countries, as outlined in the JETP Resource Mobilization Plan.

Representatives of ERAV and EREA also affirmed the importance of the TEV project for Vietnam, especially in the context of the challenges of emission reduction and renewable energy development. The cooperation with GIZ will help the two agencies strengthen their capacity and access international experiences in the field of energy transition.

Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director of the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV), emphasized that the agreement to implement the TEV project marks an important milestone in the project implementation, thereby strengthening the strong partnership between the two countries.

In the coming time, ERAV and EREA propose that GIZ provide maximum resource support to help strengthen management and regulatory capacity, thereby ensuring that Vietnam's energy transition roadmap is effective and sustainable, while contributing to the country's emission reduction target.

Mr. Tang The Hung, Deputy Director of the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority (EREA), shared that ensuring energy security in the coming years is a challenging task, while also ensuring that the energy transition process takes place fairly.

Mr. Hung also expressed his hope that, through the project, it will focus on supporting central and local agencies and especially businesses in improving capacity, perfecting the legal framework and raising awareness of energy transition.

The TEV project is designed to create a long-term and comprehensive impact in the energy transition sector in Vietnam, expected to not only contribute to promoting sustainable development but also support Vietnam's transition to a green economy, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and move towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.

This is also part of a joint effort to meet Vietnam's international commitments on climate change, while enhancing the country's position in global energy forums.

With the commitment from the German Government , and close cooperation between GIZ and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam is expected to move faster in the energy transition process, contributing to a low-emission and sustainable economy.
