Economic development in Van Han

Van Han Commune is one of the localities with large tea and forest plantation areas in Dong Hy District. Most households develop their economy from agricultural and forestry production.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Phong, Secretary of the Van Han Commune Party Committee, said: In order to promote and exploit the local potential and advantages in economic development, the Commune Party Committee has developed many resolutions and proposed economic development solutions that are close to the actual situation of the locality. In particular, it focuses on creating conditions for people to access scientific and technical advances; propagating and mobilizing households to bring quality crops into production to gradually improve economic efficiency per unit of cultivation, increasing income for people.

To put the resolutions on economic development into practice, the Commune Party Committee assigned Party Committee members to monitor each Party cell to grasp the situation and urge hamlets to implement programs and policies on economic development.

The Party Committee of Van Han commune also directed the People's Committee of the commune and mass organizations to coordinate well with the district's professional agencies to organize classes on transferring science and technology in production, and to replicate effective economic models in the locality. For households, Van Han commune encourages the establishment of cooperatives, promoting the consumption of products for people.

Thanks to good leadership and direction in economic development, in recent years, agricultural and forestry production in Van Han commune has gradually developed in a concentrated direction, expanded production linkages and promoted key products.

Regarding tea, the commune has promoted and encouraged people to actively convert ineffective tea areas to new tea varieties. On average, the whole commune improves about 20 hectares of tea each year. Along with replacing old tea varieties, many clean tea production models have also been deployed and expanded in the commune to improve tea quality.

Currently, the whole commune has 6 hectares of organic tea, 134 hectares of VietGAP tea; 10 cooperatives and 21 tea production and processing cooperatives; 8 tea products meeting 3-star and 4-star OCOP standards.

Improving the quality and value of tea plants has contributed positively to the target of increasing income for people in Van Han commune. Ms. Nguyen Thi Van, in Pha Ly hamlet, Van Han commune, said: My family has nearly 1 hectare of tea that is cared for organically. Previously, when cultivating tea in the old way, tea was only sold for about 150,000 VND/kg of dried tea buds, but when making organic tea, the price will be 50-100,000 VND/kg higher.

In developing the forest economy, Van Han commune encourages people to focus on planting, caring for, and developing forests in the direction of planting large timber forests and being granted sustainable forest production certificates. Encourage organizations and individuals to establish facilities for processing and consuming planted forest products.

From 2020 to present, Van Han commune has planted over 2,000 hectares of new forest, of which large timber forests account for over 500 hectares. The whole commune currently has over 2,600 hectares of forest certified for sustainable forest production; 8 large-scale wood processing factories.

Not only focusing on leading economic development from tea and forest planting, Van Han Commune Party Committee also built a thematic resolution on developing fruit trees in the commune to diversify income sources for the people. The resolution includes main goals such as: Building Van Han commune into a large-scale concentrated fruit tree area by 2025; income from fruit trees accounts for a high proportion in the economic structure of the commune; establishing cooperatives and cooperatives towards forming a Van Han commune fruit tree association...

Implementing the resolution, the commune has mobilized people to gradually convert low-efficiency hilly land and mixed gardens into fruit trees; effectively implementing programs, projects and models for fruit tree development in the area.

Along with that, the Commune Party Committee directed the affiliated rural Party cells to develop leadership resolutions and fully disseminate the contents to all cadres, Party members and people.

Up to now, the whole commune has about 200 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds that have been harvested. With the main fruit tree being grapefruit, the commune has established Van Han grapefruit cooperative.

By implementing synchronous and effective economic development solutions, economic development indicators in Van Han have been achieved and exceeded the set plan every year. The poverty rate in the commune has also decreased significantly, and people's lives have been increasingly improved. If in 2020, the poverty and near-poor households in Van Han accounted for over 18%, now it has decreased to 7%. At the end of 2021, Van Han was recognized by the province as an advanced new rural commune, reaching the target 4 years ahead of schedule...
