Market Management Team No. 1, Provincial Market Management Department (Department of Industry and Trade) inspected and discovered more than 2.1 tons of food of unknown origin in Cam Thuy ward (Cam Pha city), May 15, 2025.
On May 12, authorities discovered a business processing offal and sausage at group 37B, area 4B, Ha Phong ward (Ha Long city) using ingredients of unknown origin in processing. At the time of inspection, the facility only presented a business license, without any documents proving the origin of the food ingredients stored in the warehouse. The factory's preliminary processing and processing area was arranged in a messy manner, raw and cooked food was mixed together, and processing staff did not comply with food safety and hygiene regulations... Notably, this facility specializes in supplying restaurants in the area, potentially posing a risk to the health of consumers.
Mr. Dang Van Chuong, Head of the Ha Long City Health Department, said: This is one of many cases of food safety violations in the area and has been strictly handled according to regulations. However, Ha Long is a large area, and monitoring work requires the participation of all levels and sectors from commune and ward authorities to the people to promptly detect and prevent. The unit continues to coordinate with functional forces to strengthen inspection, control and strictly handle cases of business violations of food safety laws in the area, contributing to maintaining a clean area and ensuring the health and rights of consumers.
Market Management Team No. 5, Provincial Market Management Department coordinated to handle business household Tran Duc Luong at group 37B, area 4B, Ha Phong ward (Ha Long city) for processing offal from food of unknown origin, on May 12, 2025.
In Cam Thuy Ward (Cam Pha City) on May 15, 2025, Market Management Team No. 1, Provincial Market Management Department (Department of Industry and Trade) discovered and seized more than 2 tons of food of unknown origin stored in a cold storage; the value of the shipment is estimated at 95 million VND. The authorities have organized the destruction of all the violating goods and administratively fined the owner of the facility 70 million VND. According to statistics from the Market Management Department, from the beginning of 2025 to present, the Market Management force has inspected 313 cases, detected and handled 311 cases/311 subjects/364 violations with a total amount of over 11.2 billion VND. Of which, there were 168 cases of food safety violations, with fines of nearly 1.7 billion VND; the value of confiscated and destroyed goods was over 3 billion VND. Violating products include: Frozen foods, candies, fruits, alcohol, milk...
According to statistics from the Provincial Food Safety Department, by the end of April 2025, the medical force in the province had detected and handled 142 organizations and individuals violating food safety regulations; the total fine was over 1.5 billion VND. However, according to the assessment of professional agencies, these numbers still do not fully reflect the situation. With the characteristics of a border area, strong trade development, high population density, along with a large number of tourists , the risk of dirty food being mixed and circulated in the market is very high. The profit from trading unsafe food is many times greater than the fine, so many people still ignore the violation. This is a reality that makes management difficult.
Unsafe food seriously affects public health. Unsafe food can cause acute food poisoning, leading to death; others may contain pathogenic microorganisms, toxic substances, heavy metals, etc., which in the long term can cause cancer.
The provincial Market Management Force coordinated with the Customs Control Team, Customs Branch of Region VIII to inspect SK Ky Bao Ha Long Store, Don Dien, Ha Khau Ward (Ha Long City) and discovered many functional food products of unknown origin on April 26, 2025.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Quang Ninh Department of Health, emphasized: In the coming time, ensuring food safety will continue to be identified as a key, regular and interdisciplinary task. In order to avoid the formation of "hot spots" on food safety, the health sector will strengthen coordination with departments, branches and localities in inspecting and examining food production, processing and trading establishments; resolutely handling violations, especially those directly affecting the health of consumers. The Department focuses on propaganda work, raising awareness of people and businesses about regulations in the production and trading of safe food; continuing to improve and strengthen the food safety testing and monitoring system towards modernization, ensuring early detection of risks and timely measures to prevent them. The Department recommends that people be vigilant, choose products with clear origins, and promptly report establishments showing signs of violations to the authorities.
