Half a century has passed since the country was reunited. Uncle Ton's homeland now wears a new coat, resplendent with the colors of renewal and development.

Strong transformation

Lying peacefully in the middle of Hau River, My Hoa Hung Islet (Long Xuyen City) is not only famous as the hometown of beloved President Ton Duc Thang, but also a land imbued with revolutionary spirit and rich in cultural traditions. In this peaceful countryside, people's lives are closely linked to fruit-laden orchards and golden rice fields.

The difficulties and hardships of the old dirt roads have now been replaced by spacious, well-maintained asphalt and concrete roads, creating favorable conditions for travel and trade. Notably, 100% of the rice area is harvested by machinery; the mechanization rate in the field of cultivation reaches 94.6%. These results have significantly contributed to helping the commune complete the criteria and targets in the National Target Program on New Rural Development.

In addition, the material life of My Hoa Hung people is constantly improving. Simple thatched-roof houses are gradually giving way to solid, modern houses, adding to the richness of the countryside. Schools are built spaciously, commune health stations are invested with modern equipment, providing the best primary health care for people. The economic life of the people is increasingly improving thanks to diligence and creativity in production labor, especially in the fields of agriculture and ecotourism.

The change is not only reflected in the external appearance, but also permeates the economic, cultural and social life of the people. The average income per capita of the commune (at the time of consideration and recognition of the model new rural commune) reached 80 million VND/person/year, 11.2% higher than the regulation on average income per capita of the advanced new rural commune in 2024 (72 million VND/person/year), an increase of 25% compared to 2020 (60.2 million VND/person/year). Regarding basic living facilities, 100% of households use safe electricity; 99.5% use clean water; over 98% of households have hygienic toilets.

Today, that land is wearing a new, brilliant coat, changing strongly day by day, and people's lives are getting better and better. Mr. Nguyen Van Ba ​​(72 years old, a resident born and raised in My Hoa Hung commune) could not hide his pride: "In the past, life here was quite difficult. But thanks to the Party and the State, Uncle Ton's hometown is increasingly changing. Roads are convenient, children and grandchildren can study well, and people's business is much better."

Bright future

The joy was multiplied when the commune was honored to achieve the standard of a model new rural commune in production organization, opening a new chapter full of promise for the future. “This is an important milestone, affirming the efforts and correct orientation of the locality in sustainable economic development. This is a recognition of the achievements, a strong motivation for the commune to continue to innovate, improve product quality, build an effective agricultural value chain, towards modern, smart and sustainable agriculture” - Party Secretary, Chairman of the People's Committee of My Hoa Hung Commune, Duong Anh Dung expressed.

The positive changes here are a vivid demonstration of the wise leadership of the Party and the State, the will of self-reliance and the aspiration to rise of the Vietnamese people in general, and the people of An Giang in particular. In particular, the Memorial Site of President Ton Duc Thang has been invested in and renovated to become more and more spacious, becoming an attractive destination for tourists from all over the world. This place preserves sacred relics of the life and great revolutionary career of Uncle Ton, gradually becoming a green, peaceful cultural space, helping visitors understand more about the heroic history of the nation and the affectionate people of An Giang.
