Vietnamese Cultural Center to Be Established Soon in Oregon
On the afternoon of September 18 (local time), in San Francisco, USA, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received a delegation of politicians and businesses from Oregon state led by Mr. Vince Porter, Chief of the Office of Economic Development of Oregon state.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his delight at the positive developments in the relationship between Vietnam and Oregon in recent times. The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam wishes to further promote relations with Oregon to match the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace , Cooperation and Sustainable Development that the two countries have just established during the visit to Vietnam by US President Joe Biden.
The Prime Minister also hopes that the two sides will continue to strengthen political relations, expand exchanges through Party, State and people-to-people channels.
As a state with many large companies and corporations investing in Vietnam and a successful Vietnamese community, the Prime Minister encouraged Oregon and Vietnam to promote economic, trade and investment relations to effectively exploit the potential and room for cooperation; wishing to strengthen cooperation in education and training, science and technology, innovation, training of high-quality human resources as well as in a number of emerging industries such as digital transformation, energy conversion, climate change response, circular economy, and sharing economy.
In addition, the Prime Minister also hopes that Oregon will receive Vietnamese export products such as footwear and garments and that the two sides will expand tourism cooperation. This is also the way the two sides together realize the goals of upgrading relations.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the increasing number of Vietnamese people being elected to leadership positions in Oregon is a testament to the integration and contributions of the Vietnamese community, affirming the position of Vietnamese people in the United States.
Oregon State Economic Development Office Chief Vince Porter and his delegation thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to meet him. At the same time, Mr. Vince Porter respectfully reiterated the invitation of the new Governor of Oregon Tina Kotek to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to visit Oregon soon and affirmed that Oregon wants to strengthen and expand relations with Vietnam, especially relations with Vietnamese localities.
The Oregon delegation congratulated the two countries on upgrading their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and pledged to further deepen the cooperative relationship between the two sides. Notably, the delegation also said that there are currently five Vietnamese-American congressmen in the Oregon House of Representatives and a judge of Vietnamese origin, affirming the position and role of the Vietnamese community in the country and wishing to further promote cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. The Oregon representative said that a Vietnamese cultural center will soon be established in Oregon.
The Prime Minister thanked Governor Tina Kotek for the invitation and expressed his hope to soon have the opportunity to visit the state of Oregon.

Promoting educational cooperation in line with the US's cooperation orientation with Vietnam
As of now, the number of Vietnamese students ranks 3rd among international students at the University of San Francisco, with about 80 students (after China and India).
Also during his working trip to the United States, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and spoke at the University of San Francisco (USF). Speaking there, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his pleasure at meeting with the school's administrators, lecturers and students; and highly appreciated the achievements that USF has achieved.
According to the Prime Minister, in the overall bilateral relationship, the Vietnam-US cooperation in education has witnessed many strong developments in recent years, including the contribution of USF University. Currently, there are about 50 joint training programs operating between Vietnamese and US higher education institutions.
The Prime Minister said that Vietnam always wishes to seek and expand development cooperation opportunities with US educational and training institutions, including the University of San Francisco with its long history, long tradition and reputation worldwide.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister directly answered many questions from USF students.
The Prime Minister suggested that USF take the lead in the trend of cooperation between the two countries in education and training, identify Vietnam as a key cooperation point, provide more scholarships for Vietnamese students, focus on new areas such as innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, sharing economy, etc.; create favorable conditions for foreign students, including students from Vietnam - a developing country with a transitioning economy.
On the basis of the framework of the newly established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United States, the specific contents of educational and training cooperation have been agreed upon by the two countries' senior leaders. The Prime Minister emphasized that promoting educational cooperation is in line with Vietnam's priorities, the trend of the times, and the direction of cooperation between the United States and Vietnam.
Congratulating the students from Vietnam who are enjoying very good educational conditions, the Prime Minister hopes that they will promote the spirit of studiousness, patriotism, national pride, strive to study and practice to achieve high results, both preserving the fundamental cultural values and promoting the desire to explore with modern thinking, mastering new knowledge and technology, affirming that Vietnamese people are not inferior in any field compared to the world; promoting the role of a bridge and a highly qualified workforce, contributing to the development of Vietnam and the United States, and to the relationship between the two countries.
