Kien Giang: Phu Quoc Special Zone urgently responds after historic heavy rain

After the heavy rain on October 29, the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Zone issued a dispatch requesting departments, offices and ward chiefs to closely monitor the weather and be ready to respond; in which, priority is given to protecting people's lives and property.

From October 25 to 29, there were many heavy rains in Phu Quoc special economic zone, of which the biggest rain was on the evening of October 29.

On October 30, the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone said that according to information from the An Giang Province Hydrometeorological Station from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on October 29, 2025, the rainfall measured in Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone was 120mm (possibly the heaviest rainfall since 2000), according to forecasts, the rain is likely to last in the next hours.

To proactively respond to heavy rains causing localized flooding in some areas in Phu Quoc special economic zone, the Special Economic Zone Civil Defense Command requested the Special Economic Zone Military Command to regularly monitor weather developments, proactively coordinate with the Special Economic Zone police and border guard units stationed in the area to prepare forces and means for search and rescue when necessary.

An Giang Center for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation (Water Supply Region 2) organizes the opening and closing of gates to regulate water reasonably and safely manage dams to protect people's lives and property.

The Department of Culture and Society closely monitors warning bulletins, forecasts and developments of heavy rain to promptly and fully inform tourism service businesses and tourists so they can proactively prevent, respond and minimize damage.

Working groups in charge of the area and ward heads should closely monitor meteorological and hydrological forecasts and warnings on developments in information warning of rain, thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, localized flooding and landslides in order to promptly inform and propagate to people to proactively implement appropriate response solutions to the situation in the area.

Faced with the above situation, Lieutenant Colonel Au Thanh Tri - Chief of Vinh Dieu Border Guard Station, An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command mobilized forces, brought equipment and dry food, marched to the area to help people harvest crops submerged by floodwaters...

According to Lieutenant Colonel Tri, over the past 3 days, more than 100 officers and soldiers of Vinh Dieu Border Guard Station, in coordination with local forces, authorities and youth, have helped people harvest cassava and vegetable gardens of many households in Vinh Dieu commune.

Up to now, the rain has gradually decreased, but due to flood water from upstream, the fields in the commune are deeply flooded, causing many areas of crops to be damaged, with estimated damage up to this point being more than 3 billion VND.
