Kien Giang: 76 people tested positive for drugs at karaoke bar

At around 1:00 a.m. on June 4, the Drug Crime Investigation Department of Kien Giang Provincial Police coordinated with other functional units to suddenly inspect Luxy karaoke bar on Ton Duc Thang Street, Vinh Lac Ward, Rach Gia City.

After checking 12 rooms of the bar, the police force discovered that 110 men and women rented rooms to sing and illegally used drugs. At the scene, the police seized 6 plastic bags containing white crystals and 13 tablets suspected to be drugs. Through rapid testing, 76 people tested positive for drugs.

Of these 76 people, the Criminal Police Department of Kien Giang Province Police temporarily detained Pham Minh Kha (37 years old, residing in Tan Hoi Commune, Tan Hiep District, Kien Giang) and Ho Phuong Anh (23 years old, residing in Vinh Hiep Ward, Rach Gia City) to investigate the act of illegal possession of drugs. The remaining people were handed over to local police for handling according to the provisions of law.

According to Kien Giang Provincial Police, Luxy karaoke is one of the most luxurious karaoke venues in Rach Gia City. Also at this location (formerly known as MTV Luxury karaoke), in July 2022, Kien Giang Provincial Police inspected and discovered 132 people testing positive for drugs. After that, the facility was fined by the authorities and had its business license revoked. To resume operations, this facility changed owners and registered its business under another name, Luxy karaoke, but still violated the law by allowing many people to gather to use illegal drugs.
