Gasoline prices today May 30: Slight decrease across the board

Global oil prices fell more than 1% as investors weighed the impact of a US court ruling blocking most of the tariffs President Donald Trump imposed on countries. Domestic oil prices were also adjusted down, while gasoline prices only edged up slightly.

On the morning of May 30, gasoline prices continued to decline, with Brent crude falling 75 cents, or 1.2%, to $64.15 per barrel; while US WTI crude also fell 90 cents, or 1.5%, to $60.94 per barrel.

Analysts say a US court ruling on President Donald Trump's tariffs "exceeded his authority" and blocked most of the tariffs he had previously imposed on countries. Global oil prices have fluctuated following the move.

However, limiting the slide in oil prices today was data from the US Energy Information Administration showing that US crude inventories unexpectedly fell by 2.8 million barrels to 440.4 million barrels last week. This data is in stark contrast to the 118,000 barrel increase expected by analysts polled by Reuters.

Assessing future oil prices, on Reuters, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Fatih Birol said that oil demand in China is quite weak and developments in Russia and Iran are "question marks" for oil prices.

On the supply side, it is likely that some members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+) will agree to increase oil production by 411,000 barrels per day in July at a private meeting tomorrow, May 31. Analysts expect OPEC+ to maintain this increase until the end of the third quarter of this year, when members focus more on protecting market share.

Domestically, yesterday afternoon (May 29), the Ministry of Finance - Ministry of Industry and Trade adjusted domestic gasoline prices according to world price fluctuations. Accordingly, gasoline prices increased slightly from 33 - 74 VND/liter. The increase was insignificant, while oil prices decreased from 206 - 269 VND/liter/kg.

In this management period, the joint ministries continue not to set aside or use the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund for fuel products.

After adjustment, this morning (May 30), the retail prices of common domestic petroleum products are as follows: E5 RON 92 gasoline is not more than 19,196 VND/liter; RON 95-III gasoline is not more than 19,565 VND/liter; diesel oil is not more than 17,136 VND/liter; kerosene is not more than 17,108 VND/liter; mazut oil is not more than 16,264 VND/kg./.
