Recorded at markets in Tan An City, Long An Province, many items serving the Doan Ngo Festival such as sticky rice, bamboo leaf sticky rice cakes, betel and areca nuts, votive paper money, flowers for offerings, etc. are abundantly displayed. In general, the prices of items are stable or slightly increased compared to normal days. Specifically, bamboo leaf sticky rice cakes fluctuate from 50,000 to 60,000 VND/10 cakes; sticky rice and sweet soup 60,000 VND/kg; floating rice balls 50,000 VND/10 balls.
On this occasion, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Diem (a trader at Ward 1 Market, Tan An City) and her relatives were busy preparing early to ensure sufficient supply for consumers. At Ms. Diem's store, bamboo leaf sticky rice cakes are the best-selling item, each Doan Ngo Festival she sells about 7,000 - 8,000 cakes. She said that this year's purchasing power of consumers has increased significantly compared to last year, with some people going to the market and shopping from 4-5 am.
Ms. Huynh Thi Kieu Oanh (Ward 4, Tan An City) shared: “Like everyone else, I woke up early to buy fruits, cakes, and ingredients to make a tray of food to worship our ancestors. I feel the market atmosphere today is very exciting, no different from Tet holiday”.
Besides food, the flower market for offerings is also quite vibrant with many types such as chrysanthemums, gerberas, and marigolds, ranging from 20,000 to 40,000 VND/bunch, a slight increase of a few thousand VND compared to normal days. Meanwhile, the price of offerings has not increased, about 10,000 VND/piece of paper money, 5,000 VND/piece of betel and areca nuts.
