The person who 'ignites' students in Biology

Ms. Lam Thi My Hien - Deputy Head of Natural Science Group - Khanh Hau Secondary School (Tan An City) has appropriate teaching methods to help students love their subjects more.

Biology is considered a dry, difficult subject to learn, limiting future major choices , so students are not interested, but for many students at Khanh Hau Secondary School, it is different.

Nguyen Ha Chi - a student at Khanh Hau Secondary School, shared: "Ms. Hien's teaching method attracts us, especially those who love Biology. The dry knowledge in the lessons is "softened" by her into lectures.

She always starts new lessons with funny stories or changes the way she tests old lessons to reduce unnecessary stress. The knowledge seems very difficult to understand, but she helps me and my friends remember it more deeply."

Graduating in 2013, Ms. Hien began her journey as a “ferryman” at Tan Lap Secondary School, Tan Thanh District and in 2016 transferred to work at Khanh Hau Secondary School. After many years of working in the profession , according to Ms. Hien, the effective way she applies is to regularly apply information technology in teaching; at the same time, flexibly apply new teaching techniques to improve the quality of each lesson.

In addition, she often relates lessons to real life situations so that students can understand the nature of the problem. Biology theory is very difficult, so she uses mind mapping to help students remember the lesson more deeply and thoroughly. "I always keep in mind how to have good lessons that create excitement for students. Depending on the ability and development of each lesson, I choose the appropriate teaching method," she said.

According to Ms. Hien, it is not easy to make students love Biology, especially when they are always "overloaded" with subjects. Therefore, instead of teaching in a conventional, theoretical way, through the transmission of vivid images, real-life stories, rich social knowledge,... she always creates opportunities for students to demonstrate their abilities, present their views and opinions.

To do this, according to Ms. Hien, teachers need to be close to students, know how to listen to students from the smallest situations; and comment on them fairly.

To help students improve their test-taking skills, in addition to the requirement of mastering knowledge in textbooks, Ms. Hien also encourages students to learn knowledge in real life by reading newspapers and following official information on media to know how to apply and relate to their writing. From this method, every year, Khanh Hau Secondary School has excellent students in Biology at all levels.

Ms. Hien always has a spirit of learning, actively studying, training and improving her professional capacity. Many of her initiatives and experiences have been recognized as good and excellent at the city level. For many consecutive years, she has achieved the title of Emulation Fighter, a Party member who has excellently completed her tasks.

In particular, she actively participated in competitions for excellent teachers at all levels and won high prizes. From the 2020-2021 school year up to now, Ms. Lam Thi My Hien won 1 First Prize, 1 Second Prize in the Provincial Interactive Lesson Plan Design Competition, and 1 Third Prize for Excellent Teachers at the Provincial level.

In the 2024-2025 school year alone, with the Mushroom Diversity exam, she was one of 6 teachers sent by Tan An City to participate in the Provincial Interactive Lesson Plan Design Contest and won First Prize./.
