Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation between Da Nang and Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association

On behalf of Da Nang city, there were Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoi An, Deputy Director of Da Nang City Department of Culture and Sports .

The cooperation between the People's Committee of Da Nang City and the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development aims to build the brand of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) into a prestigious film event in Asia and the world ; contribute to the development of the Vietnamese film industry, build the image of Da Nang city as an ideal destination for Vietnamese and international filmmakers, audiences as well as domestic and foreign tourists.

The cooperation also aims to promote the development of the cultural industry and international cooperation of Vietnamese cinema in general and Da Nang in particular; contributing to the development of tourism, culture, socio-economy of Da Nang city and the whole country.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development, said that the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF), founded by the Association and co-organized by Da Nang City, has had two impressive and very successful editions. With the theme "Asian Bridge", DANAFF is the first and only annual film festival in Vietnam, connecting Vietnam and Asia with the world through cinema. DANAFF has a widespread influence not only in Vietnam but also in the world.

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan also said that DANAFF I in 2023 was voted by the Sports and Culture Newspaper as one of the 10 outstanding cultural events of Vietnam in 2023. DANAFF II (2024) is considered to surpass DANAFF I in terms of scale, professional quality and social influence. During the summary of events in August 2024, Da Nang included DANAFF and the Fireworks Festival in the city's official annual program.

At the signing ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee, shared that Da Nang hopes that the Da Nang Asian Film Festival will be a bridge for domestic and foreign filmmakers, actors, and audiences to exchange, learn and cooperate in cinema; at the same time, it is a good opportunity for the Da Nang film industry to meet, learn and exchange directly with leading international film experts.

“We believe that with its great potential in natural resources and historical values, cultural heritage, traditional arts, festivals, etc., Da Nang city will create its own brand of film events, contributing to the building and development of the film industry, creating the common development of Vietnamese and regional cinema,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi affirmed.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Ky, Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts, said that although the Da Nang Asian Film Festival has only been held twice, the preparation, organization, and connection with filmmakers not only in Asia but also in Europe and America have been very good. Therefore, the Film Festival has increasingly attracted the attention of domestic and international film circles and the public. Another encouraging sign is that the City Party Committee, the City People's Committee as well as the agencies and departments of Da Nang are very interested in creating favorable conditions for the organization of the Film Festival.

“I was surprised because the first time the Film Festival was good, but the second time was even better, not only attracting people, but also having many quality events, connecting cinema with the public, the professionalism and success of the Festival has increased. The Film Festival has not only contributed to the development of Vietnamese cinema, but also contributed to regional and world cinema” - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Ky said.

Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa, Director of the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) commented that the Da Nang Asian Film Festival is the only film festival in Vietnam that is held annually. The festival has grown over the years in terms of scale, professional quality and diversity of events and activities. The festival also has a balance between commerce and art, and a balance in honoring artists of many generations.

“I think the Da Nang Asian Film Festival has met the standards of many international film festivals. I am very impressed because the Organizing Committee can do what it says. The Da Nang Asian Film Festival was introduced in a systematic and grand manner by the Association for the Promotion and Development of Cinema at the Busan International Film Festival, and in 2025, we will have the Korean Cinema Spotlight,” said Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa.

DANAFF III is expected to take place for 7 days, from June 29 to July 5, 2025 in Da Nang city, with the categories of Asian Film Competition, Vietnamese Film Competition, Panorama of Asian Cinema, Korean Cinema Spotlight, Selected Vietnamese Films on the theme of war... In addition, there are many sideline programs such as Project Market, outdoor film screenings, artist exchanges with audiences...
