First aid skills when detecting victims of electric shock

Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động26/09/2023

Ho Chi Minh City Emergency Center 115 recommends that people should be careful when using electrical equipment and be alert to suspected cases of electric shock.

Accordingly, when electrocuted, the victim may have injuries such as: Burns at the point of contact with the power source; cardiac arrhythmia due to the effects of electric current; damage to the nervous system; death due to respiratory circulatory arrest. In particular, there are also later sequelae such as muscle weakness, reduced motor function, disability, amputation, etc.

Therefore, detecting and providing first aid to the patient is extremely important. If a victim of electric shock is detected, attention must be paid. Specifically:

1. Stay calm, do not panic, do not have direct contact with the victim without ensuring safe insulation.

2. Quickly separate the power source from the victim by turning off the power, turning off the circuit breaker, using insulating tools such as dry wood, plastic, latex... to separate the power source from the victim.

3. Move the victim to a dry, airy place (only do this when it is safe for both the victim and the person performing the action. Otherwise, call 114 for assistance).

4. Call 115 and perform first aid on the victim as instructed.

Providing quick, correct, and effective first aid to an electric shock victim will help increase the chances of saving the victim's life and reduce the risk of disability. However, the person performing the treatment must ensure safety during contact to avoid becoming the next victim.
