The storm and flood have left many families in the South Central region empty-handed, their homes and belongings swept away, forcing them to start life from scratch. In this situation of poverty, many students are at risk of having to stop studying due to lack of funds.

Understanding that, many philanthropists in Ho Chi Minh City have extended their support to help young people continue to go to school. Some have provided free accommodation, others have supported monthly living expenses, and some restaurants have even opened free service programs for students from flooded areas…

Free dormitory

Mr. Trinh Vinh Phuc (28 years old), CEO of BK Company located in Tang Nhon Phu ward, Ho Chi Minh City, said that BK Company has a number of dormitory buildings in the old Thu Duc city area, along with the BKS fund.

The BKS Fund is operated by BK Company and students studying in Ho Chi Minh City. Each year, the BKS Fund will support 5-7 free accommodations for students in difficult circumstances.

Mr. Phuc confided that witnessing the severe damage caused by storms and floods to people in the Central region, with many houses swept away by floodwaters and students orphaned, the BKS fund's operating members decided to expand the program.

Accordingly, BK dormitory will provide free accommodation until August 31, 2026 for 35 students whose families suffered heavy losses after the recent storm and flood. Of these, 30 are for male students and 5 are for female students.

“We base the program on the number of vacant rooms in the dormitories. Currently, the female buildings are almost full, the male buildings still have vacancies, so this time we are supporting male students more,” Mr. Phuc explained.

In BK dormitory, each room sleeps 4 people and has a dining room, private study room and a housekeeper to clean.

“The goal of this fund is to help you go to school, you can rest assured about your accommodation, just study well. There is a cafe on the ground floor of the dormitory, students can register to work part-time, or you can work as a collaborator for the company,” Mr. Phuc added.

Students who need support, please contact us by phone number 0931.610.338 or fill in the form link (https://forms.gle/vSn7a9gXUWrJhttUA).

Mr. Phuc said that the BKS fund will assign each member to be in charge of online consultation, reviewing applications, welcoming and arranging accommodation for students. After August 31, 2026, students who wish to continue receiving support can submit their applications and the members will review them. Students will receive free support or 50%-70% support.

“For students, accommodation costs account for 50% of monthly expenses. Many restaurants and other units also support meals, and we will support accommodation. If it is too difficult, we can still eat instant noodles, but without a place to stay, it will be difficult to concentrate on studying,” said Mr. Phuc.

Support to school after flood

Ms. Nguyen Cuc (29 years old, from Ninh Binh) and Mr. Tran Huu Nhu Anh (38 years old, from Quang Nam ) are co-founders of E. Company, which produces organic fertilizers. Every year, the company has charity programs such as rescuing melons and kohlrabi, and supporting people affected by natural disasters.

Most recently, Ms. Cuc and her colleagues organized a program to support people in Thai Nguyen and Quang Nam provinces affected by storms and floods.

During this flood, Ms. Cuc and Mr. Nhu Anh witnessed the heavy losses of people in the old provinces of Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, etc. They came up with the idea of supporting students whose families were affected by the floods.

“We realized that students whose families were affected by the storm and flood were at risk of having to drop out of school because their families were now in financial difficulty and could not provide financial support. Therefore, we organized the E program to accompany students to school through the flood,” Ms. Cuc shared.

According to Ms. Cuc, the program is expected to support 25 students with 1.5 million/month and support for 3 to 4 months.

As word spread about the program, more than 700 students signed up to receive support, and several donors also offered to contribute. To date, the program has approved 105 applications.

In addition, the program also connects some students in difficult circumstances with other benefactors.

Ms. Cuc said that among the applications sent to her, she was impressed with the case of a student named Duy from Hue. The flood had swept away Duy's family's house and property. This male student had to take a bus from Ho Chi Minh City to his hometown to help his family recover. Duy heard about the program and contacted him.

"Duy explained his situation and said he wanted to go to school, he didn't want to drop out. After reading it, I burst into tears. In cases like that, we can't help but support him. We connected Duy to another sponsor so he could receive higher and longer-term support," said Ms. Cuc.

Ms. Cuc shared that she herself is a provincial resident who came to the city to study and earn a living. She is the hope of her family. She does not want the students to have to drop out of school because of the current difficulties.

At the same time, she also hopes that in the near future, students' families will soon rebuild, or the school, the State, and other benefactors will have more programs to support students to maintain their studies.
