Unpredictable tricks

According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Security , in the first 6 months of 2025, the authorities recorded dozens of cases of fraud, seduction, psychological manipulation, and online kidnapping involving children and students. Many victims were forced to cut off contact with their families, and were remotely controlled for the purpose of blackmail or human trafficking. In An Giang alone, in recent months, the authorities have successfully rescued many students in Cho Moi, Cho Vam, Phu Tan, Phu An communes... who were kidnapped online by bad guys. Many cases were in the process of being forced to leave their families or being lured into illegal activities and were promptly intervened by the authorities and brought back to safety.

Ms. BTDT, a resident of My Thuan commune, said that her family was very lucky to have discovered the incident in time before her daughter was taken advantage of by bad guys. “For the past few weeks, my daughter has been constantly asking to skip school. She stays up late, is always restless, worried, and constantly uses her phone, which was not the case before. Recently, she even asked me for 5 million VND, saying it was to pay for extra tuition. When I contacted the school, I was told that there was no such fee. When I asked, my daughter burst into tears, saying that a stranger contacted her by phone, claiming to be a police officer, informing her that her personal information was in a human trafficking ring, asking her to cooperate in providing more information and paying money to serve the investigation,” Ms. DT said.

Not only threatening victims with notices of participation in drug cases, human trafficking... many subjects also use online kidnapping tricks in the form of fake international study abroad scholarship announcements. VNAD - a 12th grade student at a high school in Rach Gia ward said: "In early October, I received an email announcing that I won a full scholarship from a school in London (UK), with instructions to provide personal information and pay a deposit. At first, I was very happy, thinking that this was a rare opportunity. I was going to follow the instructions, but I felt a bit strange, the email asked for a lot of personal information, not a diploma or certificate. I reported this to my homeroom teacher. She reminded me to check the information carefully and discuss it with my parents. When everyone checked together, we discovered that this was a scam, faking a scholarship to steal personal information."

Shields to protect young people

The “Not Alone” campaign is considered the first “digital shield” to be deployed nationwide, targeting 12 million young people aged 12-24, expanding access to 22 million students and millions of parents and teachers, who act as the “first shield” in protecting children from cyber dangers. The campaign aims to protect children and young people from online dangers such as fraud, psychological manipulation or online kidnapping.

In order to promote the message of the campaign “Not alone”, iSchool Rach Gia International Integration School, Rach Gia Ward organized many competitions such as drawing, making videos for students to learn, create works, and participate in the campaign. The school also coordinated to organize seminars to help students recognize risks, raise awareness and protect themselves in the online environment.

Mr. Quach Hoang Huy - Secretary of the Youth Union of iSchool Rach Gia International Integration School shared: “The school has just concluded the “Not Alone” campaign, awarding prizes to quality drawings and videos that are true to the spirit of the campaign, made by students. Through these activities, we want to emphasize the importance of close coordination between schools and parents in protecting children from cyber dangers. Not only stopping at monitoring and guidance from the outside, students also need to raise their awareness, be careful and know how to protect themselves when participating in social networks or coming into contact with unverified information.”

The Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control, Provincial Police said that it is necessary to synchronously deploy many solutions from management, technology to communication. The authorities will continue to coordinate with network operators and platform management units to review and quickly block accounts with signs of fraud and fraud; increase the application of technology in tracking and identifying users; at the same time, promote the information security propaganda campaign for young people and parents. It is proposed to expand training in schools, especially skills in identifying tricks of seduction, enticement, and invitation to meet in real life - common methods used by bad guys to lure victims into traps.

The provincial police recommend that people, especially minors, limit sharing personal information online, do not chat privately or send sensitive images to strangers, and do not agree to meet if their identity cannot be verified. Parents should regularly talk to and guide their children to recognize risks and promptly report to authorities when detecting unusual signs such as strangers approaching or luring them online. Individual vigilance, along with early reporting, is an important factor in minimizing risks and supporting authorities in preventing online kidnappings from the beginning.
