The “key” to open the door to the future

In her spacious house, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lanh (Ward 1, Tan An Ward, La Gi Town) still remembers clearly the years of hard work to make a living. The family was poor, with only a few acres of land for cultivation, so she and her husband had to work hard at many jobs, from working for hire, making rice cakes to making wine to make a living. Despite the difficulties, the couple still hoped that their children would be able to study properly.

Policy credit capital helps the poor in La Gi town rise up and raise their children to study.

The joy was overwhelming when in 2006, her first daughter was admitted to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City. Two years later, her second daughter was admitted to the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City. But that joy quickly gave way to worry: Where would I get the money to pay for my children's tuition and living expenses? Mrs. Lanh recalled: "Looking at the number on the admission notice, my husband and I choked up. In our entire lives, we had never held such a large sum of money. In the midst of my worries, I heard the neighborhood loudspeaker announcing the student credit program of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP). With the enthusiastic guidance of the Women's Union and the head of the Loan Group, I boldly applied for a loan of 56 million VND." That amount of money became the foundation that helped her children confidently enter university. In the following years, the two youngest daughters also passed the university and college entrance exams, raising the total loan amount to 125.8 million VND.

During the loan period, Ms. Lanh always fulfilled her commitment, paid interest regularly and actively saved money. When her children graduated, went to work and had stable incomes, they helped their parents pay off the debt. Ms. Lanh emotionally shared: “Without this credit policy, my family would probably still be stuck in poverty. For poor households like us, the People's Credit Fund is not only a "support", but also the key to opening up the future for poor children to have the opportunity to study and change their lives."

Disbursement of loans to people in La Gi.

The story of Mrs. Lanh's family is just one of thousands of households in La Gi whose lives have changed thanks to policy capital. Social credit policy has opened a way out of poverty, helping many families have the opportunity to rise up, raise their children to study and change their lives. After more than 10 years of implementing Directive 40 and 5 years of implementing Conclusion 06, policy credit capital in the town has reached 520 billion VND, of which the capital entrusted by the Town People's Committee is up to 22.2 billion VND. More than 9,700 poor households and policy beneficiaries have accessed capital to invest in production, create jobs, contributing to a sharp reduction in the poverty rate.

Solutions to improve the effectiveness of policy credit

In order to effectively implement the policy of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over social policy credit, in recent times, La Gi City Party Committee has directed resolutely and mobilized the synchronous participation of the entire political system.

After 10 years of implementing Directive 40 and 5 years of implementing Conclusion 06, the awareness and responsibility of local Party committees and authorities towards social policy credit have clearly changed. Leadership and direction of policy credit activities have been included in regular programs and plans, creating favorable conditions for policy credit to operate more effectively, improve quality, and expand beneficiaries. At the same time, policy credit is integrated with programs for agricultural and rural development, education, vocational training, job creation and new rural construction.

Mr. Ton That Muon - Deputy Secretary of La Gi City Party Committee affirmed: La Gi clearly identifies social policy credit as not only an economic resource, but also an important lever to help reduce poverty sustainably and ensure social security. In the coming time, the locality will continue to synchronously deploy solutions so that capital reaches the right subjects, promoting practical effectiveness for the people.
