BHG - Among the jobs at Ha Giang Newspaper, perhaps few people know about a quiet job on the top of a high mountain, where there is always the risk of facing deafening thunderclaps during storms. That is the job at the Heaven's Gate Relay Center, Quan Ba District and the Cam Mountain Broadcasting Center, Ha Giang City.

On a rainy evening in June, on the zalo group of the Editorial Board, Mr. Le Trong Hung, Deputy Head of the Transmission and Broadcasting Department, Ha Giang Newspaper, who is in charge of the Cong Troi Relay Center in Nam Luong village, Quyet Tien commune, Quan Ba district, sent a message informing about the situation of heavy rain, thunder and lightning and measures to prevent lightning strikes to ensure the safety of people and equipment at the Center. The Cong Troi Relay Center is located at an altitude of 1,200m above sea level, this is the department working at the highest altitude of Ha Giang Newspaper. Here is the relay station of the Voice of Vietnam Radio and local radio content for 4 districts in the Stone Plateau. On the top of the mountain here is a broadcasting tower up to 75m high.

Mr. Le Trong Hung said that the Cong Troi Relay Center is located at a high altitude, where there are electrical and radio equipment and a high transmission tower, so it is an environment that easily attracts lightning. Every year during the rainy season, there are often many lightning strikes recorded here. There are lightning strikes with great intensity, no different from the sound of bombs, causing the people on duty at the station to shrink back in fear. Although there is a lightning protection system on the transmission tower, the lightning protection system is probably limited, so some of the station's equipment and machinery are still affected. Most incidents caused by lightning are power line failures, so whenever there is a storm, facing a high risk of lightning strikes, the Center is always ready with preventive measures and minimizing damage caused by lightning.

At the Heaven's Gate Relay Center, there are currently 9 staff members, each shift here always has 2 people and works 6 hours. At a high location, far from Ha Giang city and also a few kilometers from Tam Son town, Quan Ba district, the climate here is extremely special, many times being present at the Center, you can see that the weather is always "fickle", in winter the temperature drops very low, in summer the weather here also changes easily during the day, looking at the plants growing here you can also recognize the cold like in Tam Dao. Located on the top of a high mountain, there is a sign prohibiting strangers from entering, so the Heaven's Gate Relay Center is always quiet.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan, a technician at the Cong Troi Relay Center, shared, I have worked here for 14 years, but the longest-serving is Mr. Chu Thai Hung, who has worked at the Center since 2004. Due to the nature of the work, the staff here enjoys a regional incentive of 0.7, and a hazardous allowance of 0.4. The direct broadcasting job is often far from home, away from wife and children, in a relatively... sad place, but after a long time, it becomes familiar.

Also belonging to the Transmission and Broadcasting Department of Ha Giang Newspaper, the Cam Mountain Broadcasting Center, in Nguyen Trai Ward, Ha Giang City, is located close to the top of Cam Mountain. Mr. Dang Xuan Truong, in charge of the Cam Mountain Center, said that the Center broadcasts VTV programs and Ha Giang channels. At this high altitude, there is a broadcasting tower about 40m high and it is also the place where lightning strikes are often recorded during the stormy season. Due to VTV's requirements, the Station must maintain continuous operation of the machinery, even during heavy thunderstorms. Therefore, the Station must always consider solutions to ensure the safety of the people on duty in an environment with the risk of lightning strikes. At the same time, it must also ensure smooth broadcasting schedules, serving well the political and propaganda tasks.

Mr. Kieu Dat, a technician at Cam Mountain Broadcasting Center, said that while cars can reach the Heaven's Gate Center, at the Cam Mountain Center, at an altitude of about 800m above sea level, cars and motorbikes can only reach about 2/3 of the distance. The remaining staff must leave their vehicles and climb a distance. A healthy person must climb about 15 minutes to reach the broadcasting station.

During the rainy season, weather conditions make power outages likely to occur, so at the two centers of Heaven's Gate and Cam Mountain, there are currently large capacity generators from 20kw - 80kw. The machines are always ready for all weather conditions to ensure the continued operation and broadcasting of Ha Giang Newspaper, serving its political tasks well.

Talking about Ha Giang Newspaper, many people may find it hard to imagine that there is a very special job at the Cong Troi Relay Center and the Nui Cam Broadcast Center. Where the staff and technicians still regularly maintain the waves every day, bringing information on the Party's guidelines, policies, laws of the State and knowledge to the people of Ha Giang. Witnessing the work maintained 365 days a year at the two centers, we feel that this is a quiet job, like the silence of the meteorologists in the work Lang Le Sa Pa by writer Thanh Long, which was included in textbooks.
