On April 4, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, informed the press about stopping the plan to mobilize 400 people to test the load of Nguyen Thai Hoc pedestrian bridge (Long Xuyen city).
"The People's Committee of An Giang province has directed to stop mobilizing people to test the load of Nguyen Thai Hoc pedestrian bridge after working with related units. Instead, the Southern Institute of Transport Science and Technology will use other methods to replace people to ensure safety," said Mr. Binh.

Previously, An Giang Provincial Police sent a document requesting Long Long Xuyen City to coordinate and support in the appraisal of the pedestrian bridge of the Nguyen Thai Hoc Bridge Construction Project.
The document stated: "On April 5, 400 people need to be mobilized to conduct the load test. In order for the assessment to meet the requirements and progress set out, the provincial police requested the Chairman of the Long Xuyen City People's Committee to coordinate and mobilize 400 people from schools, militia, civil defense, organizations... located in Long Xuyen City to serve the assessment on April 5 (The assessment agency will collect weight data in advance on the afternoon of April 4)".
The mobilization of people to test the bridge load has caused a stir in public opinion.

Nguyen Thai Hoc Bridge was inaugurated by the People's Committee of An Giang province in April 2021. The project consists of two main bridges: a 4-span arch bridge 120m long, 16m wide cross-section bridge and a pedestrian bridge dedicated to pedestrians, each side is 1m wide.
The project has a total investment of over 200 billion VND, from the budget of An Giang province, invested by the An Giang Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board. The joint venture of Cau 12 Joint Stock Company and Construction Equipment and Materials Joint Stock Company 624 won the construction bid.
