The Golfzon Vietnam Championship 2023 Finals officially kicked off this morning, August 19th, at Golfzon Park Grand Plaza, Hanoi . 24 professional and 6 amateur players competed on the simulated Champion Course at Phoenix Golf Resort in a 36-hole (2-round) stroke play format to vie for the championship prize of 120 million VND and a prize pool of up to 600 million VND.
The Phoenix Champion Course presented numerous difficulties and challenges for the athletes on the first day of competition. As a result, no athlete achieved a score under par. The leader is professional athlete Le Anh Duc with a score of (+2), closely followed by Dao Van Hoan and Hana Kang (Sung Thi Xu) with a score of (+3).
Athlete Le Anh Duc is leading after the first day of competition.
For most of Day 1, the lead was held by a female golfer, Hana Kang. The 29-year-old golfer proved to be just as good as her male counterparts in terms of distance, and even more consistent. After the first nine holes, thanks to two birdies and one bogey, Hana took the lead with a score of -1 stroke. However, in the following nine holes, unfortunate bogeys on holes 10, 12, 16, and 17 caused the female golfer to drop to a tie for second place with a total score of 75 strokes +3, alongside golfer Dao Van Hoan.
Hana's decline created an opportunity for Lê Anh Đức to officially take sole possession of the lead with a score of 74 strokes +2. Lê Anh Đức recorded 4 birdies but also made 3 bogeys and 1 double bogey. Meanwhile, several other notable professional players did not have good results on the first day of competition.
Qualifying leader Lo Anh Van finished with a +5, tied for 6th place with Tran Van Hoang and Pham Dong Dung; Top 1 of the 2023 VGA Tour rankings, Truong Chi Quan, currently tied for 15th place with an 83. In the amateur category, golfer Tran Duc Anh is temporarily leading with a +5 score, followed by golfer Nguyen Hai Ngoc with +7.
The two leading players in the qualifying round, Van Thanh Binh and Lai Nghiep Long, are currently tied for 5th place. The second and final day of the Golfzon Championship Vietnam 2023 professional golf tournament will take place at 3 PM on August 20th. The awards ceremony will be held at 6 PM on the same day. The close score difference and the challenges at the Phoenix Champion Course promise intense and dramatic competition.
