The 157th anniversary of the death of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc

(gialai.gov.vn) - On the morning of October 31 (the 11th day of the 9th lunar month), at the Temple of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc (Vinh Hoi village, Cat Tien commune, Gia Lai province), the Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cat Tien commune solemnly held the 157th death anniversary of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc (1868-2025). Attending the ceremony were comrades: Thai Dai Ngoc - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Pham Anh Tuan - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; comrades in the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Standing Committee of the People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province; former provincial leaders; representatives of the leaders of departments, branches, unions of the province, central agencies located in the province. Also attending were a delegation of guests from An Giang province and a large number of local officials and people.

At the ceremony, in a solemn and respectful atmosphere, delegates reviewed the fighting life and glorious feats of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc.

Anh hùng dân tộc Nguyễn Trung Trực, sinh năm 1838, tên thật là Nguyễn Văn Lịch. Ông sinh ra tại làng Bình Nhựt, huyện Cửu An, phủ Tân An (nay thuộc xã Bình Đức, tỉnh Tây Ninh). Nguyên quán tại làng Vĩnh Hội, tổng Trung An, huyện Phù Cát, trấn Bình Định (nay là thôn Vĩnh Hội, xã Cát Tiến, tỉnh Gia Lai ).

In 1861, Nguyen Trung Truc joined the insurgent army led by Truong Dinh. He was the leader of the uprising against the French in the South, directly commanding many heroic battles, the most typical of which were two feats: Burning and sinking the ship "Hope" on Nhut Tao estuary, Long An province (now Tay Ninh province) on December 10, 1861 and destroying the French enemy's headquarters right at Rach Gia provincial capital in 1868.

On September 19, 1868, Nguyen Trung Truc fell into the hands of the enemy. The French colonialists took him to Saigon, interrogated him, and tried to persuade him to surrender, but all failed. Knowing that they could not bribe him, the French took him to Rach Gia and executed him on October 27, 1868.

After the ceremony, provincial leaders and delegates offered incense to commemorate and pay tribute to National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc - a shining example of patriotism in the struggle against French invaders.
