On the evening of April 11 (the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month), at Phu Day Historical and Cultural Relic Site, the People's Committee of Vu Ban District, Nam Dinh Province, held the opening ceremony of Phu Day Festival 2024, attracting a large number of people and tourists from all over the country to visit and participate in the festival.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee Tran Le Doai emphasized that Phu Day festival is associated with the legend of Holy Mother Lieu Hanh, a symbol of the "four immortals" of Vietnamese folklore. This is a large-scale traditional festival created by the community, contributing to preserving and promoting the Vietnamese people's belief in worshiping the Three Palaces of Mother Goddesses. The organization of the festival aims to honor, promote, preserve and promote the value of cultural heritage, enriching the traditional culture of the nation.
Phu Day is a complex of traditional religious architecture spread across Kim Thai commune, Vu Ban district. Phu Day festival is associated with the legend of Holy Mother Lieu Hanh, a symbol of the "four immortals" in folk beliefs with the Chau Van - Hau Dong ritual. Currently, the Chau Van ritual not only takes place at relics associated with the Mother worship belief but is also created and adapted in the form of stage performances in competitions and mass cultural activities.
Since the Vietnamese practice of worshipping the Three Realms was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2017, Phu Day festival has increasingly affirmed its position and become a spiritual tourism destination for domestic and international visitors.
Every year, during the festival season, many followers of the Mother Goddess religion and tourists from all over return to Phu Day to practice their spiritual beliefs according to the Mother Goddess worship custom, while also visiting and admiring a unique architectural complex, the origin of the art of singing Chau Van.
Mr. Tran Khac Thieng, Chairman of the People's Committee of Kim Thai Commune, Vu Ban District, said that the locality has stepped up propaganda and raised people's awareness of the value of heritage; required temples, palaces, communal houses, and mausoleums in the relic complex to absolutely not organize activities that go against traditional customs; at the same time, strengthen management and strictly handle activities and services that "rip off" tourists, superstition, and disguised gambling, aiming to build healthy and civilized festivals.
The Phu Day Festival 2024 will take place for 6 days, from April 11-16 (ie from the 3rd to the 8th of the 3rd lunar month) with rich traditional cultural activities such as the Chau Van singing art festival, the Mau Thuong Kinh procession from Phu Van Cat to Linh Son Tu pagoda, the torch procession at Phu Tien Huong, human chess competition, word arrangement, and flower-pulling festival.
