Mr. Kim is a man of few words.
On the afternoon of December 14th, the press conference at Rajamangala Stadium showcased two contrasting styles from the two coaches, Kim Sang-sik and Garrath McPherson (Philippine U23 team). Coach Garrath McPherson praised his players after their achievement of reaching the SEA Games semi-finals for the first time in 34 years. Previously, in July, the Philippines U23 team also reached the semi-finals of the Southeast Asian U23 Championship for the first time, where they lost to Vietnam U23 1-2 with goals from Dinh Bac and Xuan Bac. McPherson emphasized: "People say the Philippines U23 team plays long balls and relies heavily on physical strength, but I think the Vietnam U23 team is also very physically strong. You have a very energetic team, and your players train hard to always play impressively in the final minutes of each half. The Philippines U23 team will not change their playing style; they will fight against the very skilled Vietnam U23 players, waiting for opportunities to score against them. I believe the Vietnam U23 team will do the same. Let's wait until after the match to see which team has the best spirit and the highest quality players."

Since the Vietnam U23 team reached the semi-finals, coach Kim Sang-sik has rarely spoken. At the press conference, he was concise but very confident: "The Vietnam U23 team is very happy to reach the semi-finals, but our goal is even higher. The players have prepared well tactically, physically, and mentally, so we will have a good match. The Philippines U23 team is stronger now that many important players have returned. Although Vietnam U23 won 2-1 last time, no one can guarantee that result will be repeated. But I can confidently say that no matter what happens, the Vietnam U23 team will fight and will definitely win for the honor of Vietnamese football."
Ready to compete!
On the afternoon of December 14th, the Vietnam U23 team changed training grounds again, this time to Look E-san Stadium, only about 8 km from the hotel. However, coach Kim Sang-sik still carefully arranged for the entire team to leave early to avoid traffic jams. Coach Kim had the team warm up thoroughly and also participated in a game of "keep-away" with his players, creating a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere.
Vietnam U23 has the advantage of playing at the Rajamangala Stadium, which is largely covered, helping them avoid the intense heat of Bangkok these days. The Philippines U23 team is improving rapidly, their morale is high, and they will do everything they can to prevent Vietnam U23's ball-possession style of play. Therefore, Vietnam U23 will have to play more flexibly, forcing their opponents into mistakes to win. The Vietnamese defense will need to maintain high concentration, especially against aerial balls and set pieces, as the Philippines have many tall players who are quite good at heading. On the attacking front, we might see a new surprise as Coach Kim will again rotate players, with Thanh Nhan and Quoc Viet being the focal points. Coach Kim deliberately rested these two players in the match against Malaysia U23, not giving them a single minute of playing time, perhaps saving them for the crucial semi-final match. Thanh Nhan and Quoc Viet are both very fast and have good finishing ability, so they could surprise the Philippine defense.
