However, conquering long reading passages with a lot of academic words in IELTS is often quite challenging. This is also the problem that most 12th grade students have just encountered in the 2025 National High School Graduation Exam.

To help solve this problem, experts at DOL English have just shared solutions at the July Online Admissions Consulting session of VTV2 Channel.

Mr. Tran Thien Minh is a guest at the July 2025 Admissions Consulting session of VTV2 Channel.

Specifically, at the program, Mr. Tran Thien Minh - a face who twice achieved an absolute IELTS 9.0 - suggested referring to Linearthinking. The Linearthinking method was developed by the DOL English team - former students of the Gifted High School, Ho Chi Minh City National University - bringing a new approach, helping children learn IELTS logically, effectively and reducing dependence on memorization and vocabulary.

What is the Linearthinking method?

Linearthinking is a method of learning English thinking, specially designed for Vietnamese people, with a combination of mathematical thinking, super memory techniques and research on the influence of mother tongue on learning English. This method has been researched and developed by the DOL English team since 2008. Linearthinking not only focuses on improving English skills but also helps students practice logical thinking, systematize knowledge and apply language naturally and effectively.

The Linearthinking curriculum at DOL English is designed specifically for each level.

'For example, when we approach a long reading passage like in IELTS or the English exam for the 2025 high school graduation exam, in Linearthinking there are tools like Simplify that will help us simplify and reduce complex information into the core and essence of the problem. From there, we can easily string together information to understand the overall content. The Linearthinking method has been proven effective by helping three teachers at DOL English achieve 9.0 IELTS, more than 1,000 students achieve IELTS levels of 7.0 to 8.5', Mr. Thien Minh shared.

By applying systematic thinking in Linearthinking, students are guided to analyze questions, find connections between ideas and build strong arguments. This is especially useful in the Writing and Speaking sections of IELTS, where students need to present ideas clearly and coherently. The Linearthinking method also contributes to effectively solving long and difficult exam questions that require high thinking such as in English and Mathematics in the recent 2025 National High School Graduation Exam.

Conquer IELTS early to increase your chances

Another highlight of Linearthinking is its approach based on the student’s personal interests, which is suitable for learners at many levels. For primary and secondary school students, this method helps build a solid language foundation, from standard pronunciation (based on the IPA international phonetic alphabet) to reading and writing skills. For higher level students, Linearthinking focuses on improving reflective and analytical thinking skills, helping to achieve high scores in the IELTS exam.

NCS Ha Dang Nhu Quynh - academic director and also one of the 3 faces achieving absolute IELTS 9.0 at DOL English - awarded scholarships to excellent students of the English Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education on the afternoon of July 16, 2025.

Manyeducation experts believe that conquering IELTS early brings many advantages, especially in the context of international integration. For example, Master Bành Phạm Ngọc Vân, Vietnam market director of the New Zealand Education Agency, said that high schools in New Zealand often do not require specific entrance standards, but students with IELTS certificates will have a great advantage in adapting to the international learning environment.

According to Master Nguyen Thao Chi, Head of the Department of Communication and Event Management, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM, English output standards at Vietnamese universities often require a level equivalent to B1, B2 or higher, especially for international joint programs (minimum 5.5 IELTS). Therefore, studying IELTS early helps students build a solid foundation, ready to meet these requirements.

At the same time, reality shows that most candidates who scored 10 points in English in the 2025 National High School Graduation Exam had conquered IELTS or were familiar with this type of question before.
