Liverpool make 'eternal' decision to remember Diogo Jota

Specifically, from the time of the announcement, no Liverpool player will be allowed to wear the number 20 shirt at any level, from the men's first team to the women's team and football academy. This is the first time in history that Liverpool has permanently retired a shirt number to honor a player.

Liverpool's board said the decision was made after careful consultation with Diogo Jota's family.

"By retiring the number 20 shirt, we will make it permanent and Diogo will never be forgotten," said Liverpool chief executive Michael Edwards.

Diogo Jota (28 years old) unfortunately passed away in a traffic accident in Zamora (Spain) on July 3, when he and his brother were on their way to join their teammates at Liverpool. His passing shocked and shook the football world .

Diogo Jota was born on December 4, 1996, joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton for a fee of 44.7 million euros. He played 182 matches for the "Red Brigade", scored 65 goals and created 26 assists. He also won 3 titles in Liverpool's shirt: Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.
