Centre-back Marc Guehi is close to joining Liverpool.

The Telegraph reported that Liverpool have reached a personal agreement with the England centre-back in the summer transfer window of 2025. This move marks the ambition of the Merseyside team to strengthen their defense under the leadership of coach Arne Slot.

Liverpool's interest in Guehi is not new. The Reds see Guehi as a long-term replacement for 33-year-old Virgil van Dijk. The deal is also being driven by Liverpool's plans to sell young centre-back Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £40m.

After playing well with England at Euro 2024, Guehi has been sought after by many big clubs. The player born in 2000 is also ready to move to a team with greater ambitions than Palace. He is expected to become the new number one center-back for England, especially when the 2026 World Cup is approaching.

The English centre-back's contract with Palace expires in June 2026. Therefore, Liverpool's board believes this is the right time to own Guehi at a low price. According to Liverpool Echo , Crystal Palace agreed to sell Guehi for £35 million.

If the Guehi deal is completed, Liverpool will have spent over £200 million in the summer transfer window. Previously, "The Kop" completed the announcement of midfielder Florian Wirtz for a fee of £116 million from Leverkusen, and is preparing to announce defender Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for a fee of £40 million.

Guehi is highly regarded for his reading of the game, spatial awareness and excellent ball control. A product of the Chelsea academy, he stands out for his solid defensive abilities, aerial prowess and ability to launch attacks from the back.

Last season, Guehi had an 87% tackle success rate and contributed three assists, according to Opta . The England centre-back's consistency played a big part in Palace's FA Cup triumph in May.

River Plate was bitterly eliminated from the Club World Cup. On the morning of June 26, Inter defeated River Plate to win a ticket to the round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.
