Military expert, Head of the Department of Political Analysis and Psychosocial Processes of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, retired Colonel Andrei Koshkin expressed this opinion in a conversation with Russian media.
Given that both Moscow and Kiev are in dire need of these UAVs, Mr. Koshkin believes that the sides will try to increase their supply to the front line.
“FPV is a technologically advanced combat UAV that has appeared and been widely used in special military operations in Ukraine. In English, the three-letter acronym FPV (First Person View) translates to “first-person view”.
This UAV has a 190-degree camera and transmits information instantly to the helmet worn by the operator. The images are recorded and transmitted instantly, so the operator is like present in the UAV and flying.
They film what is happening, and the operator sees the image through special glasses. This allows him to manually control the UAV, bring it to the most inaccessible points and cause serious damage to the enemy. In addition, this UAV can carry up to 2 kg of explosives, the average flight speed is from 100 to 150 km / h.
“The advantages of FPV are very high. First of all, in terms of reconnaissance. You see the terrain and can immediately transmit information via radio to artillery clusters or missile systems to destroy the enemy.
The advantages are undeniable, but their consumption is also very high. One operator can use up to 15 of these FPVs per day,” Koshkin concluded.
Russia began developing combat UAV technology in the 2000s, when it tested unmanned aerial vehicles for military purposes. Initially, these UAVs were used for reconnaissance and surveillance. As the technology advanced, they were equipped with weapons systems.
As the conflict in Ukraine escalated, Russia took the opportunity to perfect its UAV technology, beginning to deploy several types in the conflict zone, using them to target Kiev's military positions.
The use of suicide UAVs gives Russia many advantages on the ground, primarily the ability to conduct precision strikes on enemy positions.
