Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son had a phone call with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

During the phone call, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son congratulated Mr. Johann Wadephul on his appointment as German Foreign Minister; highly appreciated Germany's role and position in the European Union (EU) and in the international arena, affirming that Germany is one of Vietnam's important partners in Europe.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister expressed his delight at the positive developments in bilateral cooperation in recent times; proposed major orientations to deepen and make more substantial the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership in the fields of politics - diplomacy, trade - investment, science - technology, education - training, sustainable development and people-to-people exchange... in the coming time.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic achievements; was pleased with the positive developments in the relationship between the two countries in recent times; and affirmed that Germany wishes to strengthen the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam. Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized that the German Government and businesses are ready to cooperate with Vietnam in areas of interest to Vietnam and give high priority, including energy transition.

The two sides stressed the need to soon elevate bilateral relations; promote the expansion of each other's markets; soon complete the ratification of the Vietnam - European Union Investment Protection Agreement; make science and technology cooperation a new pillar in bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of clean energy, nanotechnology, quantum technology, semiconductors, and digital transformation; and promote cooperation in education and vocational training.

The two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate in organizing practical activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025; promote exchanges and make careful and effective preparations for visits at all levels, especially high-level ones.

Discussing a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue, the two sides agreed to promote the settlement of conflicts and disputes by peaceful means, through dialogue, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son invited Minister Johann Wadephul to make an official visit to Vietnam soon. Minister Johann Wadephul happily accepted the invitation.
