Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang bids farewell to the Secretary-General and President of the United Nations General Assembly

During the meetings, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), affirmed that Vietnam will continue to strongly support multilateralism and is ready to make more active and substantive contributions to the common work of the UN.

On May 21 and 27, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations, paid a farewell visit to President of the 79th UN General Assembly Philemon Yang and UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the occasion of the end of their terms of office.

At the reception, President of the UN General Assembly Philemon Yang warmly congratulated Vietnam on its impressive socio -economic and foreign affairs achievements in recent times.

He highly appreciated Vietnam's role and positive and constructive contributions to the UN on all three pillars of peace and security, sustainable development and promotion of human rights; and sincerely thanked the Vietnamese Delegation and Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang personally for always supporting the agenda and priorities of the President of the UN General Assembly.

Receiving Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang to bid farewell, UN Secretary-General António Guterres highly appreciated the role of Vietnam and the Ambassador, Head of the Delegation, in promoting cooperation and consensus at the UN.

He emphasized that Vietnam's initiatives and proposals in recent times have received widespread support from member countries because they are practical, linked to the common concerns of the international community and contribute to promoting multilateralism.

The Secretary-General affirmed that he will soon visit Vietnam again; expressed his hope and belief that the UN-Vietnam relationship will be increasingly tightened and that Vietnam will continue to further promote its position and role at UN forums.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang expressed his honor and pride to represent Vietnam at the UN; appreciated the support and affection that the Secretary General and President of the UN General Assembly had given to the country, the Vietnamese Delegation and the Ambassador himself during his tenure of over 3 years.

The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam will continue to strongly support multilateralism and is ready to make more active and substantive contributions to the common work of the UN to maintain international peace and security, promote sustainable development and effectively respond to global challenges.
