MWC 2025 saw the launch of a slew of new phones from Xiaomi, HMD to Samsung.
MWC 2025 takes place from March 3 to March 6 in Barcelona, Spain. This is the world's largest mobile technology event, organized annually by the GSM Association.
Similar to previous years, MWC 2025 witnessed the launch of a series of new products and ideas related to mobile.
Infinix
Chinese phone brand Infinix has introduced a concept phone with a solar panel on the back, as well as a solar charging case. Both are just concepts, but The Verge thinks they look promising.
Infinix uses perovskite solar cells instead of traditional silicon solar cells. It is thinner and cheaper, combined with a voltage regulation system to maximize power while still managing temperature. The technology can charge phones at a maximum speed of 2W.
Xiaomi
Days after announcing the 15 Ultra in China, Xiaomi has introduced its flagship smartphone in Europe and the UK, alongside the base Xiaomi 15. The company also unveiled new tablets, headphones, and fitness trackers.
The Xiaomi 15 and 15 Ultra start at around $1,000 and $1,600, respectively. Both use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and a large battery, fast charging, wireless charging, IP68 dust and water resistance. The difference between the two devices lies in the camera cluster.
The Xiaomi 15 uses a 50MP main camera, a telephoto camera, and an ultra-wide-angle camera, while the Ultra uses different sensors for each lens, so the photos are better. It also has a 200MP periscope lens with 4.3x zoom.
The company sells a Photography accessory kit for about $225, which includes a built-in shutter button, zoom and exposure controls.
HMD
HMD Global Oy, the company known for its Nokia-branded phones, has introduced a mobile phone that allows parents to control their children's online activities.
The operating system on the HMD Fusion X1 will block your child from going online during school and bedtime, approve contacts and know when they leave safe zones. Websites and social networks are also under parental control, an important feature as authorities around the world express concern about the risks to children online. Australia has banned social media for under-16s, while Europe, France and Denmark have banned phones in schools for certain ages.
HMD Fusion X1 will be available from May with prices ranging from $250 to $300.
Samsung
Samsung is bringing AI features to its budget phones, including the Galaxy A56, A36, and A26. They will feature the same AI-based photo editing capabilities as the S25. One of the most notable features is Best Face, an AI tool that swaps the facial expressions of up to five people in a photo when someone is blurred or has their eyes closed… It's quite similar to Google Pixel's Best Take.
There's also an object removal tool and filters, plus a circle search feature. The device comes with up to six years of OS and security updates.
Galaxy A56, A36 and A26 use 6.7-inch Full HD Plus screens with 120Hz refresh rate. A56 uses a 12MP ultra-wide lens, 50MP main camera and 5MP macro camera, 12MP selfie camera. If A56 uses Exynos 1580 chip, A36 uses Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.
All three devices are equipped with 5,000mAh batteries, but only the A56 and A36 support 45W charging and a larger "vapor chamber" design to improve heat dissipation performance.
At $499, the Galaxy A56 is the most expensive of the trio. The Galaxy A36 costs $399, while the Galaxy A26 costs $299.
