Recently, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh informed that construction of the second runway of Long Thanh airport phase 1 is expected to begin this May.
According to schedule, the second runway will be constructed within 12 months, thus ensuring synchronous operation with runway 1 in the first half of 2026.
Currently, runway 1 has completed electrical and lighting items and is ready for calibration flights, shortening the progress by 3 months compared to the plan.
Gia Binh Airport - 31,000 billion VND
On December 10, 2024, Gia Binh airport project started construction in Xuan Lai commune and Gia Binh town, Gia Binh district, Bac Ninh province. The project has an area of about 125 hectares, about 40km from Noi Bai airport.
This is the airport serving the training and combat readiness missions of the Vietnam People's Public Security Air Force. Later, the Government agreed to upgrade Gia Binh airport to become the top airport in the North and share a portion of passengers and cargo with Noi Bai airport.

Perspective of Gia Binh airport.
During the period 2021 - 2030, Gia Binh airport will be level 4E with a capacity of about 5 million passengers/year and 250,000 tons of cargo/year. This airport will operate B777, B787, A350, A321 aircraft and other special and specialized aircraft.
Vision to 2050, Gia Binh airport will maintain level 4E but increase capacity to 15 million passengers/year and 1 million tons of cargo/year; still operating B777, B787, A350, A321 aircraft and other special and specialized aircraft.
The total investment of Gia Binh airport project is estimated at about 31,300 billion VND.
Phu Quoc Airport Upgrade - over 50,000 billion VND
The Ministry of Construction in coordination with the People's Committee of Kien Giang province recently announced the planning of Phu Quoc international airport for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, with a total area of about 1,050 hectares, a total investment capital of more than VND 26,500 billion by 2030 and an additional nearly VND 25,800 billion for the period after 2030.

Perspective of Phu Quoc airport after upgrade.
According to the project presentation of the aviation construction consulting company ADCC, Phu Quoc airport will be expanded with the goal of reaching a capacity of 18 million passengers/year, 4.5 times higher than the current capacity (4 million passengers/year). The goal is that by 2050, the airport will be upgraded to a capacity of 50 million passengers/year.
The expansion plan includes the construction of an additional 3,300 m runway next to the existing 3,500 m runway; expanding the parking lot to 70-80 positions, ensuring the operation of wide-body aircraft such as B747, B787, A350... and long-haul flights from Europe and the US.
The highlight of the project is the new passenger terminal, inspired by the image of a phoenix, designed by CPG Consulting (Singapore). The terminal is equipped with modern technology such as biometric recognition, remote check-in, automatic baggage sorting, etc., helping to reduce check-in time to 15-30 seconds per person.
In addition, a VVIP terminal will be built to welcome heads of state, inspired by the design of a sea eagle, by Italian architect Marco Casamonti.
The project also includes expansion of the cargo terminal, radar system and other ancillary works.
The upgrade of Phu Quoc airport is expected to create a foundation to develop this place into a modern aviation hub of the region.
Many airports plan to start construction
In addition to the above key airports, a series of airport projects in other localities are also planned for investment and construction. These include the Mang Den (Kon Tum), Van Phong (Khanh Hoa), Quang Tri, Sapa airport projects...
Specifically, Mang Den Airport is planned in Mang Den town, Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province, about 45 km northeast of Kon Tum city center, 73 km northwest of Pleiku airport, Phu Cat (Binh Dinh) 105 km northwest, and Chu Lai (Quang Nam) 93 km southwest.

This airport is located entirely on the coastal water surface, with an estimated area of about 497 hectares. The planned capacity by 2030 is about 1.5 million passengers/year; the vision by 2050 is about 2.5 million passengers/year; the 4E airport level can accommodate large aircraft such as A350/B787.
