Candidates accuse supervisors of not knowing test time

On the evening of June 1, after the second round of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's capacity assessment ended, candidates at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology exam site reported that the invigilator in exam room P42 [E1-08.14] took about 30 minutes of the candidates' test time.

This candidate took the first round of the exam on March 30, and continued to take the second round on June 1 in the hope of improving his score.

According to the reflection, after the bell rang at 8:30, the exam supervisor announced that this was the time to read the exam questions, and candidates were not allowed to hold a pen. At this time, candidates felt suspicious because they had taken the first exam and understood that this was the time to start doing the exam.

About 10 minutes later, a candidate in the room picked up a pen and was immediately reminded by the supervisor. When the candidate in the room asked about the time to do the test, the supervisor confirmed that this was the time to read the questions.

After that, a candidate in the room continued to talk about the first round of taking the test from 8:30, not having time to look at the exam paper separately, but the invigilator kept reminding them to “wait for the bell to take the test”. At 9:00, which was 30 minutes late, when there was a final reminder from the candidate, the invigilator asked and found out that the actual test time was from 8:30.

Candidates were upset because the supervisor did not take any action the first time they were reminded. In addition, for such a big exam, the supervisor did not clearly understand the time and regulations. This seriously affected the test results when candidates unjustly lost 30 minutes.

Examination board admits supervisor's mistake

Speaking to VietNamNet , Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh - Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assurance (Ho Chi Minh City National University) said that the Competency Assessment Examination Council had received the candidates' opinions. Immediately after that, the Council sent an official dispatch requesting the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology examination site to verify the incident. When the verification and clarification results are available, the Council will meet and handle the incident. According to Mr. Chinh, normally an examination room has 30-45 candidates, so the Council will consider carefully.

A representative of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology said that at 2:35 p.m. on June 1, examination cluster No. 9, the unit in charge of examination site No. 17, received feedback information related to examination room P42 [E1-08.14] via a forwarded letter from the Office of Ho Chi Minh City National University.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology examination cluster urgently reviewed and initially recorded that during the exam session on the morning of June 1, in room P42, the invigilator opened and distributed the exam papers but allowed the candidates to complete the exam later than the prescribed time.

The above incident resulted in the test time of candidates in room P42 being shortened. This is a shortcoming that arose during the coordination of the exam, causing certain impacts on the rights of the candidates involved. The school has reported in detail to Ho Chi Minh City National University and asked for instructions on how to resolve the issue to ensure the best interests of the candidates, and at the same time requested the offending exam supervisors to provide an explanation and the disciplinary council will consider and discipline them according to regulations.

Previously, in the first round of the competency assessment exam at An Giang University (P.002), the exam supervisor delayed the test time of the candidates by nearly 20 minutes. The Competency Assessment Examination Council worked with the An Giang University exam site and determined that 4 candidates were affected in their test time. The An Giang University Examination Council contacted each candidate directly, apologized and created conditions for them to take the second round of the exam without collecting a fee (VND 300,000/student).
