With a bold adaptation of Cao Ngu's masterpiece, director Quoc Thao and the young actors have brought to Thunderstorm: Melody of Sin a new breath, both challenging themselves and showing remarkable efforts on the path of professional art.
Thunderstorm by writer Cao Ngu is one of the classic scripts of world theater, with a complex tragic structure, interwoven tragic relationships and a system of characters with multi-layered psychological depth. Its weight lies not only in the story, but also in the huge shadow of generations of veteran artists who have left their mark.
Therefore, when deciding to choose to write a graduation script after only a year and a half of studying, it was a bold and courageous choice for the students. This was not just an exam, but also a big mountain that the young people had to conquer. The play required the actors to have the ability to control their emotions delicately, to have deep empathy for the fate of the character, and to have a solid stage presence - things that often require years of experience to hone.

New remix for old tragedy
Understanding the importance of the original script and the characteristics of the students, director Quoc Thao did not follow the stereotype but boldly adapted it, to create space for the young actors. The play's tempo was accelerated, more intense, combining more action elements and physical techniques. This is a way for the students to develop their trained skills, while helping the story become more engaging and suitable for the perception of modern audiences.
In particular, the musical element is included as a unique highlight. The songs and dance scenes are cleverly integrated, becoming a means for the characters to reveal hidden corners of their moods and unspeakable torments. The serious investment is also shown through the stage design and costumes. From the dark, stuffy living room of the Chu family to the meticulously crafted costumes, all together create a lively, classic but not outdated setting.

Remarkable efforts
The students of the K14 course showed a serious and dedicated work ethic. The most outstanding was Moc Anh in the role of Phồn Y. She portrayed quite well the image of a passionate woman, longing for love but bound by prejudices of etiquette. In Moc Anh, the audience saw the inner conflict, both resigned and wanting to rebel to gain happiness. With good diction, clear pronunciation and rich emotions, Moc Anh initially touched on the complexity of this classic character.
Meanwhile, Doan Canh Nghi brings a pure and youthful Lu Tu Phuong, appropriate for her age. Her innocent appearance and natural acting style are very suitable for a girl with a pure and selfless way of living and loving. The role of Chu Binh played by Minh Huy is also a highlight. His handsome appearance, stage presence, and acting showing the conflict between desire and guilt helped Minh Huy fully portray one of the central characters of the tragedy.
An interesting highlight is Huu Khang in the role of Lo Quy. With charming moves, Huu Khang has become a comedic element, helping to ease the tension of a psychological drama. Other actors such as My Thanh (Thi Binh), Hoang Kim Tien (Chu Phac Vien), Thanh Hung (Chu Xung) all played their roles well. In particular, Kim Quoc Nhan had an interesting change in image in the role of Lo Dai Hai, showing his efforts to create a unique appearance and personality for characters that are already too familiar.
The young actors still have a long way to go to perfect their skills, but above all, the play is a testament to the dedication of the teacher and the admirable efforts of the entire group. They were not afraid of challenges, dared to face a great work and together retold that tragic story with all their youth and passion. This is a good start, promising a new generation of potential actors for the city's stage in the future.
