After Phong Chau bridge ( Phu Tho ) collapsed due to the impact of storm No. 3 (Yagi), under orders from above, Brigade 249 mobilized forces and vehicles (160 comrades and 80 vehicles) to the assembly location at Zone 4, Tam Nong commune, Phu Tho province to prepare for the construction of a pontoon bridge.

Brigade 249 urgently surveyed and dredged 11,000m3 of soil and rock; repaired and reinforced the access road to the wharf and the wharf; dropped 7,545m3 of various types of rock, and drove 58 I200 steel piles 6m long to serve the construction of the pontoon bridge. On September 28, 2024, the brigade completed the repair of the access road to the wharf and the wharf tongue to meet the conditions for the construction of the pontoon bridge.

From the beginning to the end, Brigade 249 has organized traffic assurance by bridge (ferry) for 336/360 days. Of which, 306 days were secured by bridge, 26 days by ferry (1,965 trips). The Brigade has ensured 4,933,297 people and vehicles safely crossing the bridge (ferry). On average, 13,704 people and vehicles cross the bridge and ferry each day.

Next, on December 27, 2024, Brigade 249 organized the groundbreaking ceremony to renovate and repair the Phong Chau overpass with a large volume and short construction time. There are many difficult items, requiring high technical requirements, such as: access road to the wharf; adjusting the wharf downstream compared to the old wharf; solidifying and preventing erosion and landslides; leveling and dredging the ground; pouring reinforced concrete; arranging stone dragons to prevent erosion at the foot of the retaining wall.

During the process of performing the task of ensuring traffic at Phong Chau bridge, many groups and individuals of the Brigade were awarded. Of which, the Brigade and 1 individual were awarded certificates of merit by the Prime Minister; 8 groups and 32 individuals were awarded by the Ministry of National Defense , Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee, the Engineering Corps and Tam Nong Commune People's Committee.

At the conference, delegates made presentations clarifying the results of the construction of pontoon bridges and ferries to ensure traffic safety. Delegates affirmed that thanks to the initiative, good training and high proactive work; especially the spirit of solidarity, creativity as well as the spirit of overcoming difficulties, officers and soldiers performed their tasks with high efficiency and absolute safety. In addition, in performing their tasks, the brigade has built a close and close relationship with the Party Committee, the government and the local people and the units performing the construction task, stationed in the area. At the summary session, delegates also pointed out a number of issues that need to be learned from in coordinating the implementation of tasks.

Speaking at the conference, Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Trung, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Engineer Corps, affirmed that the implementation of the mission at Phong Chau Bridge, Phu Tho Province was a new achievement in peacetime for Brigade 249 in particular and the Engineer Corps in general. He also raised a number of issues that need to be learned from in coordinating the implementation of the mission, as a basis for better training and combat readiness in the unit.

Concluding the conference, Colonel Tran Van Tuan affirmed that the excellent completion of the mission at Phong Chau bridge has left the brigade with valuable experience, especially in performing tasks in complex weather, climate, and hydrological conditions, and in a tight timeframe.

At the conference, the Engineering Corps awarded certificates of merit to 6 groups and 34 individuals. Brigade 249 awarded 46 certificates of merit to individuals with good achievements in performing their tasks.
