On June 27, the People's Court of Vinh Long Province held a first-instance trial and sentenced Mai Huu Tien (28 years old) to 13 years in prison, Luu Tu Linh (40 years old) to 7 years in prison, and Le Thi Thuy Dung (35 years old, both living in Ho Chi Minh City) to 3 years in prison for fraud and property appropriation. At the same time, the three defendants were ordered to compensate the victims for more than 1.3 billion VND they had appropriated.

According to the indictment, in early 2020, Dung, Tien and Linh participated in online sales in the form of winning purchases owned by Linh. At the end of 2021, the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, so Tien moved to Tien Giang to live. In March 2022, Tien called Dung to provide a list of customers to defraud, and if he succeeded, he would give Dung 5 million VND/customer.
After that, the three agreed and deceived customers by winning prizes in Vinh Long and some other places. From March 2022 to January 28, 2023, Tien, Linh and Dung deceived 4 victims with a total amount of over 1.3 billion VND. The group's trick was to remake the winning records, asking the victims to pay the money by bank transfer to appropriate it.
At court, the defendants confessed honestly, repented... Considering that the defendants' actions were contemptuous of the law, using deceitful tricks to appropriate other people's money, the panel sentenced them to the above sentence for fraud and appropriation of property.
