The first batch of "plastic-reduced" pomelos is ready for harvest

TTH.VN - Not only "reducing plastic", dozens of hectares of grapefruit and pomelo in Huong Tho commune ( Hue city) also have a good harvest, the products are of good quality. This is a good sign in the production of safe and quality grapefruit and pomelo, informed by the Provincial Farmers' Association on the afternoon of July 19.

Accordingly, after a year of piloting the use of recycled bags made from old clothes to wrap pomelos and grapefruits in Huong Tho commune from contributions from local people, the first batch of fruit has now been produced. The quality of the fruit is assessed as good with shiny skin and no pests.

This is a model that the Hue City Farmers' Association in collaboration with the project "Hue - Plastic-reducing City in Central Vietnam" piloted to recycle old clothes into fabric bags to wrap grapefruit and pomelo, replacing the use of plastic-containing bags to reduce the amount of plastic waste released into the environment during the production process. At the same time, using fabric bags also helps protect the fruit, limit pests and create quality products.
