On the morning of July 13, within the framework of his State visit to Cambodia, President To Lam had a friendly meeting with the Association of Cambodian Alumni who studied in Vietnam.
President of the Association of Cambodian Alumni who studied in Vietnam, Uch Leang, and several representatives of the alumni expressed their honor to meet President To Lam during his first foreign trip to Cambodia.
The opinions also expressed deep gratitude to the Party, State and people of Vietnam for always giving great support and assistance to Cambodia in general and to Cambodian students in Vietnam in particular; at the same time, affirmed that former Cambodian students will continue to promote their role, always be a bridge, propagate andeducate the younger generation about the solidarity and attachment between the two nations.
The President expressed his pleasure at meeting and interacting with former Cambodian students who studied in Vietnam, who have been and will actively contribute to the development of the relationship between Cambodia and Vietnam.
Reviewing the important milestones in the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship in recent times, the President affirmed that the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship has achieved many positive results, strongly contributing to the development of each country, as well as contributing to further consolidating and strengthening the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship under the motto "Good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability".
The President said that Vietnam and Cambodia are two close neighbors, drinking from the same Mekong River and having a long-standing traditional relationship. The two peoples have united, shared and supported each other in times of difficulty and adversity, together overcoming many ups and downs of history. Generations of Vietnamese leaders and people always respect, are grateful and highly appreciate the good feelings and valuable support and assistance that the late King Norodom Sihanouk, generations of Cambodian leaders and people have given to the country and people of Vietnam in the cause of fighting for national independence and building and developing the country.
The President emphasized that over the past time, the relationship between the two countries has continued to be consolidated and developed; the leaders of the two countries have maintained regular contacts and exchanges; and bilateral cooperation mechanisms have continued to be effective. Economic, trade and investment cooperation has been of interest to both sides and has been promoted; cooperation in education, training, culture and tourism has been increasingly developed. In particular, high growth in trade exchange is one of the highlights in bilateral cooperation. The two sides also cooperate closely within multilateral and sub-regional frameworks, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

The President highly appreciated the fact that Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many, who is also Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party's Mass Mobilization Commission, President of the Cambodian Youth Federation, and a high-ranking representative of the Cambodian youth generation, during his recent visit to Vietnam, continued to affirm that Cambodia will never forget the material and spiritual support and especially the blood sacrifices of Vietnam to help Cambodia escape the genocidal regime and emphasized the need to widely propagate among the people, especially the younger generation, the value of solidarity and friendship between the two countries and peoples.
In the context of the current rapidly evolving and complex world situation, the President hopes that former Cambodian students who studied in Vietnam, regardless of their positions, will always be a solid bridge connecting the two countries' relations; actively promote and spread to all classes of Cambodian people, especially the younger generation, the position and importance of the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship for the development of each country.
Agreeing with the proposals of the alumni association representatives, the President pledged to ask relevant Vietnamese agencies to grant more scholarships for Cambodian students to study at Vietnamese universities, as well as consider establishing a Vietnamese alumni association in Cambodia, thereby further promoting the friendly relationship between the two countries.
The President expressed his belief that with a complete organizational structure, a large number of members and good feelings towards the country and people of Vietnam, the Association will operate effectively, contribute positively to the development of Cambodia and be a bridge connecting the good neighborly relationship, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between Vietnam and Cambodia./.
