The number of international visitors to Vietnam in October was at a record high.

With 1.73 million international arrivals in October, this is considered the highest growth rate in Vietnam's tourism history compared to the same period in previous years. This figure also increased by nearly 14% compared to September.

Figures released this morning (November 6) by the General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Finance ) show that in October, international visitors to Vietnam reached 1.73 million, an increase of 13.8% over the previous month and up to 22.1% over the same period in 2024. In the past 10 months, international visitors to our country reached nearly 17.2 million, an increase of 21.5% over the same period in 2024.

Notably, most major markets sending visitors have grown, such as China, South Korea, Taiwan (China), the US, Australia, and Cambodia, with increases of 10-24% compared to September. Only visitors from Japan this month decreased, only 77% compared to the previous month.

Normally, October is the beginning of the peak international tourist season, so achieving this figure right from the beginning of the season shows that Vietnam is becoming an attractive destination that is preferred by foreign tourists. However, if calculating the total number of international visitors to Vietnam in the past 10 months, the number of international visitors to Vietnam has only reached about 75% of the target announced at the beginning of the year of 22-23 million arrivals.

The leaders of the General Statistics Office said that thanks to favorable visa policies, continuous tourism promotion programs and activities celebrating major national holidays, Vietnam has attracted a large number of international visitors in October, and they expect the number of visitors to continue to increase in the peak months at the end of the year.

Key tourist destinations such as Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, Khanh Hoa and Phu Quoc all recorded a steady increase in international visitors compared to the same period last year. In order to attract longer stays and more spending, many new tourist destinations, experiential tourism products, green tourism, and cultural tourism in Vietnam have been invested in more systematically in recent times.

Along with the increase in international visitors, revenue from tourism in the past 10 months is estimated at 77,400 billion VND, up 19.8%; revenue from accommodation and food services is estimated at 695,100 billion VND, up 14.6% over the same period in 2004.

In August 2025, the Government issued Resolution No. 226 on growth targets for industries, sectors, and localities, and key tasks and solutions to ensure the country's growth in 2025 reaches 8.3 - 8.5%. For the tourism industry, the Government assigned the target of striving to reach at least 25 million international visitors for the whole year.

According to industry experts, with the above growth momentum, 2025 will be the year when the country's tourism industry has the opportunity to set a new record in the number of arrivals, surpassing the 18 million arrivals of the golden year 2019. However, achieving the target as assigned by the Government is a big challenge.

To reach the target of 22-23 million visitors, tourism needs to welcome an additional 4.7-5.7 million visitors in the last two months of the year (an average of 2.35-2.85 million visitors/month). Meanwhile, the number of 1.73 million visitors in October is at a record high and wants to grow rapidly to about 2.5 million visitors/month for two consecutive months, which is... unprecedented.

Such a high target could put great pressure on the infrastructure and human resources of the entire industry. Experts say that with this growth momentum, Vietnamese tourism has the basis to surpass the 20 million arrivals mark. This is also a new milestone for the industry./.
