In a recent post on social network X, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple is developing a new MacBook model running the A18 Pro processor, instead of the M series chip like many current products.

According to the plan, this MacBook will start production in late 2025 or early 2026. The device will offer many different color options, including silver, rose gold and gold.

Kuo said that this product line will have a 13-inch screen size similar to the MacBook Air models currently on the market. Most likely, Apple will reuse the design of the MacBook Air models to save research costs.

Apple is reportedly planning to produce between 5 and 7 million units by 2026, which would represent a significant portion of total Mac shipments. The goal of the product line is to attract users with an accessible price point.

The A18 Pro chip is the processor that is equipped on the iPhone 16 Pro. In the performance test through the Geekbench application, the A18 Pro chip achieved around 3,500 points in single-core. This number is only slightly lower than the M4 chip found in the Mac Mini computer model.

However, the multi-core score has a relatively large difference. Specifically, the A18 chip reaches about 8,780 multi-core points. Meanwhile, the M4 chip has a performance score nearly double, reaching 15,000 multi-core points.

However, 9to5mac notes that Mac users won't notice much of a difference when it comes to basic tasks. Most common tasks today only involve single-core performance.

In fact, the multi-core score of the A18 Pro chip is almost on par with the M1 chip launched in 2020. To date, many users are still using computers running the M1 chip without any problems.

With the change in processor chip, Apple may bring the price of the low-cost MacBook down to below $999. This is expected to significantly boost sales of Mac computers.
