Apple benefits from the death of Windows 10

(Dan Tri) - According to a report from market research firm Counterpoint Research, global PC shipments in the third quarter increased 8.1% over the same period last year.

This growth was primarily driven by Microsoft's official discontinuation of the Windows 10 operating system in October. Additionally, manufacturers adjusted their pricing strategies due to the impact of tariff changes.

Experts at Counterpoint Research believe that the discontinuation of Windows 10 acts like a countdown clock to a device refresh across the entire industry. Consumers are likely to replace their older devices before October.

To date, nearly 40% of personal computers still use the Windows 10 operating system. The product replacement cycle is predicted to continue driving the growth of the personal computer market for the next few years.

The report indicates that Lenovo continues to maintain its market leadership position with a 17.4% year-on-year growth. HP ranks second with a 10.3% growth, while Dell saw a slight decrease of 0.9% and is in third place.

Apple's sales increased 14.9% year-over-year. This strong growth stemmed from the success of the new MacBook models and their adoption in the enterprise environment.

"The current growth is primarily driven by the demand for operating system switching. However, the industry is poised for an even bigger transformation with the rise of PC AI," shared Minsoo Kang, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research .

According to experts, the increase in AI PC shipments will begin after 2026. This shift will be driven by the commercialization of next-generation processors specifically designed for AI needs.

“The PC market recovery in 2025 is not just about replacing outdated systems, but also about preparing for what’s to come. Many businesses are opting for AI PCs to ensure long-term performance.”

"The next refresh cycle will be shaped by edge AI, not just pure performance improvements," said Vice President David Naranjo.
