Comrade Nguyen Ho Hai, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, excitedly said: “The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is a major policy of the Party and State, considered one of the key tasks of local authorities at all levels. Ca Mau identified this as a program with profound humanistic meaning, in line with the Party and the people's will, promoting the nation's fine traditions, the entire political system has urgently and resolutely implemented it. Each completed house is not only a joy for the poor family but also contains the sentiments and responsibilities of the community and society”.

Warmth from new homes

Having a solid house that can survive two rainy and sunny seasons has been the dream of Mrs. Tran Thi Toi, Tan Anh Hamlet, Phu Hung Commune, Cai Nuoc District for decades. Mrs. Toi is over 60 years old, a near-poor household in the locality, and has to take care of her mentally handicapped son. The mother and son live together in a makeshift house made of trees and leaves. Although they had received housing support once before, it has deteriorated and there is no money to repair it. Under the Project, Mrs. Toi was supported with 40 million VND to repair the house and pay for the construction of a hygienic toilet.

Mrs. Toi emotionally shared: “Without the support of the State and local authorities, my mother and I would never have had a house in our lives, so we are very grateful. Now that we have a safe house to protect us from the sun and rain, we are also trying to take care of the pigs to restore the herd and have income.”

Along with the cost of house repairs, Mrs. Toi was considered by Phu Hung commune for support in the pig raising model. Due to the difficult conditions, she did not have money to build a barn, so the commune veterinary staff also lent her money in advance so that Mrs. Toi could build a barn. Thanks to her hard work and dedication in taking care of her pigs, Mrs. Toi was able to pay for the barn, restore her pig herd, and her life became more stable than before.

That joy is not only for Mrs. Toi's family but also for more than 4,400 poor and near-poor households and families with difficult housing conditions in the area. It is also the joy of those who directly implement the policy; those who do not mind the hardship, just hoping that each house will be completed soon, each less fortunate fate will soon have a place to live. That is what created the strength for Ca Mau to complete the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses nearly 5 months ahead of schedule compared to the direction of the Central Government.

With that mindset, Tran Van Thoi district is one of the localities that completed this program the earliest. Ms. Phan Kim Bia, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, confided: "The core thing that the district leaders want is for each poor family to soon have a home, especially when the rainy season comes. Therefore, implementing the direction of the province, the leaders of the District Party Committee and the District People's Committee have directed to complete the program as soon as possible, considering this a meaningful gift that the district leaders give to the people in the area, before ending the district-level activities and moving to a new phase".

Each house built is a warm home, a decades-long dream of many poor households in the area.

Each house built is a warm home, a decades-long dream of many poor households in the area.

The whole political system is involved.

Along with the determination of the provincial leaders is the participation of sectors, levels, the Fatherland Front, and organizations; the cooperation of businesses, philanthropists, the sharing and support of family members, clans... bringing new houses that are truly warm and humane.

In just the past 8 months, hundreds of billions of VND have been mobilized, called for support and assistance. Of which, philanthropists, businesses, and benefactors inside and outside the province supported over 140 billion VND; party members supported nearly 6.5 billion VND... In particular, union members, youth, police and military forces mobilized about 97 volunteer teams, with 5,840 people participating in contributing 46,047 working days, estimated to be converted into about 15.5 billion VND to support families.

The good news is that after the review, the whole province has 272 households with difficulties in land for housing and house construction. Through mobilization, they have been given or lent land to build houses by their families, relatives and clansmen... In addition to the support level of 60 million VND/household for new construction and 30 million VND/household for repair, the province also supports an additional 5 million VND/household from socialized sources to build hygienic toilets. In addition, localities coordinate with stores and agents to buy materials with deferred payment and no interest; and advance the commune's funds to speed up the implementation of the Program. These are extremely noble hearts and gestures.

Livelihood support campaign launched

Not stopping there, to help people settle down, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Ho Hai also launched a program to implement the Project to support livelihoods for poor households, near-poor households, disadvantaged policy households and ethnic minority households in the province for the period 2025-2027.

The Provincial Party Secretary emphasized: "Completing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses does not mean that there will be no more temporary houses in the area, because the beneficiaries of the project are limited. In complex weather conditions, the impact of climate change, natural disasters... there are still unstable and makeshift houses, so the province will continue to direct, review and have appropriate support policies, and at the same time launch livelihood support for poor and near-poor households, disadvantaged policy families, and ethnic minorities in the area."

Thereby, comrade Nguyen Ho Hai hopes that departments, branches, unions at all levels, and local authorities will continue to do a better job of propaganda, mobilization, raising people's awareness, promoting self-reliance and self-improvement. Do not expect, rely on and rely on the support of the State and the community, inspire and motivate people to strive to get rich legitimately, proactively learn from good models, effective methods, to apply in production, effectively use resources to support livelihoods, develop family economy , contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality./.
