Like the Vietnamese team, Malaysia was eliminated early in the 2023 Asian Cup in the second match after a painful 0-1 defeat to Bahrain. The only goal conceded by the "Tigers" appeared in the 90+5 minute.

Speaking after the match, coach Kim Pan Gon apologized to Malaysian fans: "There is nothing wrong with the team losing. Perhaps the reason lies in my wrong decision. Am I the right coach for Malaysia?
Perhaps, I have placed too much expectation on the players. This is my problem, not the team, the FA of Malaysia or the fans.
Many fans came to support the Malaysian team. The Malaysian people also looked forward to this match. Once again, I apologize to everyone. I appreciate the efforts of the players. This match shows where we are. As the head coach, it is difficult for me to accept this result."

The Korean coach commented further on the match: "We did not control and dominate this match. We should have drawn but we were unlucky. We are aiming to approach the match better. This is the time to take it step by step."
In the final match, the Malaysian team will face South Korea on January 25. It will not be easy for the "Tigers" to create a surprise against a very thirsty South Korea.
